Is burning way to fast on one side?

I've tried a few things in the past but I usually end up ruining the stick.

I usually pass a lighter(lit) along the part that is not burning and that usually fixes the problem. You should get it while it is small so it does not cause a huge problem.

Can also put the spoon side down if u notice it earlier.

Just torch the un burned wrapper edge lightly. Won't ruin the stick.

As soon as I notice one side is burning faster I rotate the cigar slow burning side up. Fast burning side down And smoke it like that til it evens up. That along with the touch up advice already given and you'll be good to go.

If the uneven burning happens to a lot of your cigars, you may have too much moisture in your storage box. When I first started, I went with the "conventional wisdom for storing cigars: 70 degrees/70% RH", and had a lot of cigars burn faster on one side (canoeing). After finding this place and reading a lot of the info being exchanged, it seemed that most of the fogs here keep the RH in their storage boxes at closer to 65%RH, so I did that. Guess what? Very few of my cigars burn unevenly now.

sounds like your humi is not getting enough airflow and the humidity is settling into "zones". A few simple fixes to your root cause

1. keep less sticks in your humi
2. get slotted trays for in you humi
3. get a small oust fan to help circulation
4. if no fan be sure to rotate your sticks periodically from top to bottom and side to side
5. drybox sticks for a day or two before smoking

Go to wally-world and buy a Ronson Jetlite for just under three bucks until you can budget for a nice one. Pretty good for an inexpensive lighter.....

If it gets out of hand you can also use your cutter to cut behind the burn and start over. I've done it once or twice when I first started smoking to save the stick.

This is the opposite of what I do, slow side down.

Everyone has there own technique. I always felt that heat rises so I put the slow burning side up and sometimes tilt it a bit to get heat consentrated to the slow burning wrapper.

That is what most think, but it has something to do with available oxygen so the tobacco can burn. seen it explained somewhere, dunno works for me.

You beat me to it............Conventional wisdom in this regard is wrong.Giving the slower burning part of your cigar more oxygen(from the bottom)usually gets things straightened out fairly quickly.A little saliva on your finger rubbed across the faster(top of cigar)burning area seems to speeds the evening out process even more.BUT.......................some cigars will never recover without the aid of the torch.I've found cigars with lots of ligero tobacco lend themselves to this problem.Ligero burns at a much slower rate than other varieties and sometimes ends up wedged on one side or the other......A torch is the only thing that will keep the burn line even in this case.Let the cigar dictate your measures.

I will try it that way next time and I may get a better result. Worth a shot.

One other quick thought on this, I have found is that uneven burn can be the result of not getting a good light on the cigar to begin with. Whenever I have issues with one I try to pay extra attention and really slow down on the the lighting of any upcoming cigars. After all the best fix is to not have the issues in the first place. . .

Sometimes the ligero core is rolled off center, and to one side of the cigar. You will notice this problem the first time you ash. The only way to fix this is to keep relighting the slow side.

FYI, the term for a cigar burning down one side is “canoeing” .

Yeah I think I got the match lighting down. There have been times I missed an edge on the foot.
But on my AF WOA it got SOOO out of control I had to trash it.
So my first WOA was a bad experience. Plus I let it die a little too much and it got that ammonia taste when I tried to puff it back to life. Damn this noob brain!

I know one of them was way to juicy to light one day and it burnt way to funny.

Fyi I love Mi Amor Churchill it burnt perfect and the flavor at the end was AWESOME.
Perfect cigar for a slow morning.

And as for the torch I'm bidding on a Xikar right now and hoping to win it.
Then I can practice torch lighting on my cheapy Devils weeds! (bought them to test out my Humi bags from sikarlan and lighting)
