During this morning's commute, a known decent cigar exploded on me...

Now, I'm a cheap bastad, and I didn't have another cigar with me. So I just pealed the wrapper back as it came apart and kept smoking. It smoked fine and tasted o.k., just kept me a little busy catching the wrapper bits as the came off!

If I had taken the band off, I'd have had to toss it. So, having the band on saved it!

That is what happens when you over humidify. Take the smokes out of the humidor a few days before burning them so they can aclimate properly. You can avoid this problem

That can also happen if you smoke the cigar to fast an it gets to hot. Try slowing down when smoking your cigars, especially in the car. If you have the windows down the breeze can cause them to canoe or over heat and pop, the wrapper splits. Good luck with the next one and I hope you're having a good day!

O.k. I might buy the to humid idea, except I grab a cigar from the same humi everyday and this is the first to explode.

I work from three humidors. 70% for storage (cooliador) with boxes, 65% for singles (big plastic tub from a restaurant supply) and a ~60% (glass with about 10 gars) for ready to smoke. It wasn't even raining this day. I do live in the South and I started leaving the band on to keep my sweat off the gar. Just sayin' I felt like the band saved it.

Probably comes under the heading of POOP Happens!

I had that happen yesterday to an AF Cuban Beli. About halfway through I walked outside, 5 minutes later it split all the way to the band. I know the high humidity was the culprit.
