Been looking at trying one of these for a while so I pulled the trigger on a 10 count box press sampler. Think final price was a whole 12 bucks. Of course I was trying to see if it lived up to a Padron.

Lit up the Toro tonight. Very loose draw that I thought would be an issue.

Lots and lots of pepper and quite dry at the foot.

First third mellowed out a tad with still a bit of pepper along with a light chocolate taste and creamy texture.

Nice transition into second third where ally spice/pepper is not noticeable anymore and got a real deep chocolate/caramel taste with a hint of cedar.

Another cool transition into the last third where spice fully came back but was undertoned by the chocolate/caramel combo. The spice hit hard but I still got all that dark sweetness.

Loads of smoke the whole way through down through band and to the nub.

Padron? I wouldn't put em on same level. But, a great smoke and built beautifully. The very loose draw was never a problem.

Will definitely be smoking more.

They were basically marketed as a Padron Anniversary copycat. Even down to the damn near same band look. I've only had one Nica but I wouldn't put it in the same class as a Padron quality wise or price wise but it was a pretty good smoke to my taste. But, that's my taste.

Pepper?? Really??

I thought these were medium at best. My step dad likes em so I bought a box to keep his paws outta da good stuff.

I actually smoked one of these blind (no band) in propadope61's blind trade in my first trade ever with NewB76. They are a decent stick but the eluded comparison is laughable. I'll check mine never had a soft one, though these have a year or two on em.

Dang Nicas.. If 10 cost less than 1, you know it ain't gonna be anywhere near. I haven't been able to push myself to try one yet. My goto yard gar is a JDN Antaño 1970 machito.. It's hard to find a better cigar for 4 bucks or less IMO.

That's good if you like it, though. That's some serious value!

That's how Sven is marketing them.

These things are about as close to a Padron as a Big Mac is to a ribeye from Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

I find the Nica Libre to be 1-dimensional....slight coffee/chocolate/tobacco w/ a short finish...medium body and strength. Try the Nica Libre Potencia. Upgraded with either a better blend or the use of better tobacco, i can't tell, but it is better.

.....however, once they age for a while they are a decent smoke. Try the Nica Libre Potencia Maduro Torpedo. They are even better.

"The Padron of Yard Gars" maybe that's a better description. IMO they aren't that bad, but not really on the same level as a high-end Padron.

I have a feeling they aren't even on the same level as a X,000 series Padron..
