Hey everybody...I'm switching to my first real humidor after using a cooler the past few years. I have the el diablo 300 count. Anyway, it's been empty the past few days and reading a consistent 75rh after seasoning. Should I just toss my sticks in and let the rh come down that way? As for humidity control, I'm using 8 of the 65% boveda packs until I can get some beads. Thanks for the help. 🇨🇮

depends on a lot variables

what rh were you sticks stored in

what rh to you want you humi to reach

how full will your sticks make the new humi

without knowing any of the above, I'd still suggest getting it a lot closer to 70, if not high 60s

Thanks for the speedy reply. I actually just got an order in yesterday from cbid of 100 sticks, so I could stock this thing. It's pretty much full. In my experience cbid overhumidifies, so I'm not sure how that'll impact me putting my sticks in the humidor. I'd prefer to get them anywhere between 65 and 68, although 70 isn't a deal breaker.

75 is a bit high. I'd let it set for no less than a week. Let it drop.

Hold on, all kidding aside, your using 8 boveda packs? All at once? That's a lot of packs, when you could just used one single 84% boveda pack to season it.

still 8 of them for a 300 ct humidor seems excessive to say the least, id say at tops maybe two but definitely not eight.

First of all, doesn't Boveda pack pull humidity as beads do?

Next, pending on the rh of the packs, you may not need 8 of them for the 300. I use to use about 3 or 4 and it stayed around 65rh fine.

Need to answer questions in post #2 to yourself.

I usually do not season and let the humidity packs do the seasoning as I go w/cigars in it.

Make sure your hygrometer is correct. Most are not accurate. I heard the diamond Crowns are very accurate. I have 3 and all read different and one is about 7 percent off the other 2. 🤦 --test as needed.

Dave check the FGM's FAQ. About midway down you'll find the beads.

No, it's not seasoned, yet. You have added neither garlic nor oregano.

Where are you located? In my area, I can leave the humi lid open for a few hours and it will drop from 75% to 65%, especially in the winter when the heater is running.

I would generally let it season for at least 7 days - the longer the better. You want the cedar to pull as much moisture from the packets as possible so it doesn't pull that from your smokes when you throw them in. If you can pull the packets out and leave it sitting for a few days and the RH doesn't drop (or only drops 1-2%) then it should be ready to go.

When seasoning mine, I used shot glasses with distilled water to try and "speed it up," and that seemed to help a bit. In the meantime throw your smokes in a tupperware container until it's ready.

I have two of the exact humidors you mentioned, took two weeks to settle down to 70%, after it did I need only charge the humidifier about every three months. be warned, you will soon run out of space.

To the OP, leave the lid open for a couple days. No big deal.
