Leaving for Aruba next week. Been there three times before and took my own but bought one or two cc but very expensive.

I've checked posts here and else where and quite a few people recommend Cigar Emporium run/owned by two women. Any of you folks know of this place or any others? Also, has anyone tried the Aruban cigars made there? One post claimed they were as good as cc's.

They don't grow tobacco there so it comes from some where, but I can't believe Cuba.

Since its part of the Netherlands I would guess they are getting Cuban cigars imported thru the actual Netherlands and then exported to Aruba. I know this is what happens on the Dutch side of St. Maarten. Check the tax stamps on boxes. If the boxes don't have tax stamps then the duty hasn't been paid and chances are they aren't legitimate.

Hope you have a good trip. You also might want to jump over to the cruisecritic boards, they sometimes have a good chunk of info on the local fair like restaurants, stores etc. that might help you out. I've never been there myself but if others recommend it, then it's probably not to shabby of a place.

Cigar Emporium was certainly the place to go as of the last time I was in Aruba in '08. I cannot even say how many cigars I have smoked from there. Same owner as LCDH there and Curacao. 100% Legit. Benlo is a little, night-time shop near some of the hotels. Good for the first night there. Look in local papers for a couppon for a free cigar from Benlo when you buy 2 or 3 cigars from Benlo- nothing amazing (Quintero, Fonseca, etc.), but free nonetheless. Don't buy cigars from the store in the shopping center to the left of and a floor or two above LCDH. Don't waste $.01 on Aruban tobacco or cigars. If you do a search, I think I have written extensively about cigar-ing, dining and gambling in Aruba. One of my truly favorite places. Hope you have a GREAT time!

(Will see if I have any emails about Aruba and pm them to you.)

Robert,

you sent me to Benlo last year and it was also open days then. I got a free Quintero.

Also, my experience at LCDH was much better than CE, but that could have just been the staff that day. Got a free (my choice) cigar valued at $15 at LCDH for spending over a certain amount too. I seem to recall the amount to beat as $50 but that seems too good to be true.

Special thanx to Robert and JK . Fenster really knows Aruba and better than me because I think he keeps a journal. Regardless I'm going to try one Aruban made cigar.

JTL, don't be envious, just go, and find out for yourself. Sunrise is a little tough, sunset is a keeper, and easy from the hotels.

Now, if the casino gods are friendly. I'll smoke a lot, buy a lot and send some home. Last visit I hit them pretty hard. Hope they don't hold a grudge. No jewelry for the wife this time.

GrayBeard - Used to take the family down there every spring break - I'd trade out the Orlando Marriott for Aruba. That was back when I was flying over 100k mi a year and making a good buck... Times a bit tougher now - been looking for work for a little over 7 months.

Was out in LA interviewing last week - heard from the CEO today that I'll have a firm offer Tuesday. Looking forward to the opportunity. Do not have to relocate, new industry, new challenges. Really jazzed to get back into the game.

Enjoy yourself!

The wife and I would drag a few chairs to the waters edge each night, sit there with drinks and "tuck the sun in"... Was the best part of the trip each day.

I was there the week she disappeared. I have also played tournament poker at the same table as Van Der Sloot. Creepy.
