After converting the wine cooler, airing it out, installing the drawers,

How did you season it?

How long did it take w/a set of drawers?

I am debating on whether or not to use active humidification. the wine cooler will be under 6 cu ft I was looking at the HydraSM for like $90.00 and it will humidify up to 8 cu ft or the Cigar OasisXL for like $99.00. Are there any drawbacks to using active humidification? Any personal opinions on either would be greatly appreciated.

I would also be using beads, because i have them. about 1.5 lbs. I was going to separate them and put 1/2 pound in each drawer..any opinions on that?

Has anyone here used beads INSIDE their active humidifier? is that solely for mold reasons?

Basically, I am wanting to know what you did that worked and what you did that DIDN'T work, if you don't mind.

Thanks again,

Active humidification is overkill in a small wine cooler unless you open the door way to much.

Use beads and a small computer fan for circulation .

Spritz the beads with distilled water or use a dish of water when you need it.

The more beads you use the less you have to tend to it. The more beads the better. Put 5 or 6 pounds in there and you will be amazed how stable it is.

5 or 6 lbs of beads to cover for 6 cu ft of space? That's like 4 to 5x more than needed.

1 lb covers 5 cu. ft, so 2 lbs is still overkill.

When you have a hundred pounds of beads to play with 5 or 6 pounds doesn't seem like much. 😰

The foam tends to mold, some of the active humidifation devices are easier than others to spoon out the foam. I know someone who did this and it works great. But it's much cheaper to just use beads and fans.

I was thinking they were going to be about the same seeing as how beads from heartfelt are like $30/pound + fan setup ~$70, a hydraSM runs about $85.00 which is why i was even considering the options, mostly, i go for the cheapest route. exceptions include appearance, then i would weigh the appearance vs cost options. IF i do end up using the active humidifier, i already told myself i would use it the way it came until i had to replace the cartridge, then i would consider filling it with beads....i just want a set and forget kind of setup, set it for 65% and dont worry about it. I use beads in all three of my humidors, but if you leave them open for longer than a few minutes, weather it's re-arranging them to accommodate another 5er, or picking one from the bottom layer, 1 time and it seems to never recover back to 65% hovers @ 60% so i just wonder if an active humidification would be a little less temperamental.
