Just thought you might want to know

The red line is kitty litter, this is why it is different from regular silica gel, it is far less efficient it adsorbing moisture at 65%. You would have to keep you humidor at 90% for it to hold the same amount moisture as narrow pore silica gel. They are made from the same material and do the same thing they are just made for different applications and have different humidity characteristics. So at 70% humidity kitty litter will hold about 8% of its weight in moisture and narrow pore silica gel will hold about 36% of its weight in moisture.

"On the other hand, at higher concentrations of adsorbents, the adsorption capacity is higher than for zeolites due to the higher internal pore volume. Certain grades of silica can adsorb up to 1.2 times their own weight of water.
Adsorbent Capacities Due to the lower adsorption forces, silica gel is also easier to regenerate.

Due to this behavior, silica gel is the material of choice when only moderately low dew points need to be achieved and the high adsorption capacity and / or good regeneration behavior of silica gel can fully be exploited. The suitability of silica gels for the adsorption of liquids or gases and vapors varies based on the pore size distribution.

In addition, narrow pore and wide pore silica gels exhibit different degrees of stability against liquid water. Liquid water can lead to a destruction of the silica gel pores in case of a narrow pore silica gel, while wide pore silica gel "AKA Kitty Litter" is not affected by the presence of liquids. "

What temp was study conducted at?

Why the mention of dew points unless this is a local meteorologist trying to sound smart? I understand that conceptually it affects the curves/absorbtion rates, however, testing at one or more relatively constant temps in the 60-70F range should be applicable to most. (Call Mr. Tokash if you want to chart it out for those poor slobs who keep their coolers in garages that get down below 40F in the winter.)

True most of them are done in that range except for special applications.
Knowing the dew point applies to stopping condensation inside a sealed container that you are controlling the humidity in, you have to remember that they are looking at the material as a desiccant or total absorption of moisture capability.
The only target they have is to remove as much moisture as they can in a given parameter or application, they are not looking for two way humidity control like in a humidor, only removal till the medium is spent then doing regeneration to use it again.

Yeah the garage is the worst place to store anything that you expect to taste good when you open it.
90 in the day then 40 in the evening temp swings will cross the dew point and cause moisture to form in the humi for sure.
