at the risk of sounding like a cheap skate, I need some advice on safely shipping single cigars for a cost-effective price...

I know I can just use the boxes cbid uses to ship, but I don't want people to a) be disappointed that there's only 1 cigar in a big freaking box, and 2) was hoping not to spend quite that much in shipping costs...

Find a little box that it fits in and send it Priority USPS. It'll be cheaper than a SFR.

You could try wrapping in chipboard to prevent folding and enclose in a bubblewrap envelope, but you may only save a buck or so. XRX offers good advice. If it's worth sending only one, make sure it is packed appropriately.

Find a small box and send it First Class. I've done this and it gets there in about the same amount of time but for half the cost.

You could probably insert said cigar into an unused tubo prior to shipment. Got a box that your checks came in? Prolly fit in there. Wrap it and mail it first class as mentioned. Looking at 2-3 bucks cost, I'd guess.
