As a relatively new pipe smoker (since Dec 12), there have been a few BOTL's on here that have sent me a few different blends to try. I am very much liking the aromatic stuff (Stokkebye Vanillas mostly...vanilla creme is probably the top out of all of the ones I have tried). I've also got one called Montego Bay in a gold pouch that is nice as well.

I'm due to place another order, and I'd like to stay in the same flavor profile at least. Anybody have a favorite that's similar to those? Preferrably one that's sold online since I can't get to any B&M's for another few months.

Thanks,

Joe

I like aromatics that don't burn wet from excess topping. The bulk stuff from Altadis has some good blends clearly labled for vanilla profiles. I have been using the " Match " blends from the same vendor pipesandcigars in the old time " Field and Stream " with some light virginia blended in to dry it up. Its a good vanilla with a touch of maple and licorice. Very nice stuff. Its all done under the carefull guidance of Russ Oulette the creator of Hearth and Home now run by CI under the same roof. He is the boss and rightly so.

The only aro I've been able to tolerate was Trout Stream.Had a small sample just not sure if I'll order again or not.Pretty much all other aro's have been too heavily cased or loaded with tongue bite.

I highly suggest you try some straight Virginia's,vapers or vaburs such as

G.L.Pease Montgomery

G.L.Pease Triple Play

Orlik's Golden Sliced

Davidoff Flake Medallions

Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake

C&D's Exhausted Rooster

H&H Anniversary Cake

H&H Rolando's Own

PeterbStokkebye's Luxury Bullseye Flake

Newminster Superior Round Slices

Russ is The Man! He really does do some amazing thing with pipe baccy. I lean mostly towards VaPer blends, but will vary it with just about anything else. I am currently smoking my way through the ropes of G & H and Sam Gawith. Black Irish X and Maple Twist are fans thus far.

As far as aromatics go, C & D's Nutty Irishman is pretty darn tasty and my Grumpie's favorite. Rattray's Bagpipers Dream is another one to try. Nording Labradour and Nording Retriever are good as well.

Don't be afraid to try the CAO tins that match the CAO Flavours line.

Last year when Russ and H & H did the blending project and made all the blending baccies from C & D available for us mere mortals to order, I ordered some of each component. I smoked my way through each one separately to train my palate (except the latakia & perique). That experience has really got me stepping out of my comfort zone.

If you haven't found the site that reviews tobacco yet, I have found it to be a very useful site. I don't want to post a possible competitor reference here. If you can't figure it out, PM me and I will send you the link.

I love cigars. Some days I want it simple. No fussing around with a pipe. Light and go.

I love pipes. Other days I want to control every bit of my tobacco journey.

I truly am obsessed with tobacco.
