I never thought I'd be doing this, let alone admitting to it, but after a short 2 years of smoking cigars, building up my stash, going from just a 75 count humidor to that plus two 50's, a 25 for infused sticks (for guests, not me), and a cooler with about 300 cigars (still incredibly small compared to many of the fogs here), I decided that having such a large supply of cigars just isn't for me, at least not at this stage in life...

especially with a baby in the house and hopefully more to come, I've realized I don't have the time to do what I used to in regards to this hobby... I spend more time here in the forum than I do smoking cigars these days...

I'm sure when I'm an old man with time on my hands I'll be back into it full swing... but for the time being, it's been nice spending more time with the family and less time smoking...

I know most the talk on here is of expanding your stash and adding more coolers to the mix - and as well it should be... but I was curious if anyone else has found themselves in this position - still a cigar smoker but not so much a collector or hoarder, just an occasional smoker...

Many go through what you're experiencing.

I gave up the hobby for almost 15 years while raising my kids.

When I returned, the whole online buying world had boomed, etc...........and I went nuts for a while.....but I've settled back into a calmer routine in the last year or so.

Smoking less when starting a family is a good thing imho............for many reasons.

I could offer "storage space" until your triumphant return to the cigar world... I swear I will only look at them

No worries. Happens when the family arrives, and it is a good thing. I cut back seriously on the number of cigars I smoked, especially when they were young. Usually only smoked while golfing or hanging out with brothers or BIL's. Gave me plenty of time to age some favorite smokes, gift away some to friends and family too. Never gave it up completely and kept the humidors properly filled. Made for some great smokes when I did want to enjoy a special occasion.

Sounds like Life Is Good! Enjoy your children before their innocent days are gone. Teach them well.=d> =d> =d> =d>

Kind of in a similar boat. I went through a phase a while back and built up a healthy stash for a few years - a small 50 count desktop at work, a winedor and three tupers at home. I use to smoke quite frequently but now I seem to only make time to smoke maybe once a week.

Coincidently the slow down seems to coincide with raising two kids as others have mentioned. As long as the storage environment is maintained, I’m sure the cigars will not mind the wait.

Definitely as the kids get older, you will have some more time to yourself to relax. And relax you will need. All I can say is TEENAGERS!!!!!!!! Sometimes the hour on the back porch is a safe haven from continiuous arguements with a 17 year old son. But I wouldn't change them.

Take time to enjoy the formative years. They go by rather quickly. Just last week, my 12 yr old was on the phone with me and it was like his voice changed right there and then. Not gonna lie, I got a little misty. They really do fly by...

I'm getting older, the kids have been out of the house for years, and my wife is spending a lot of time on her Arbonne business. If anything, I now have far more time to smoke, though I'm down to 1 to 3 per day, where a couple years ago I was ashing 5+.

I only smoke a couple cigars a week. I have prolly only 300 or so smokes.

I only buy a few here and there if it's good bargain...

I come here to meet broads...

At some point opelmanta, you'll be faced with another big decision: do you encourage of discourage your son from smoking cigars, or do you stay neutral and let him decide? Just understand that if you smoke, that is a big influence.

I'm ambivalent about this since I offered my son a cigar when we went fishing with a friend who was into "cigars" (swishers) My son was 27, so I figured he was old enough to say yes or no. He said yes, and now he's a cigar smoker like dad. I am glad because it is an activity that we can enjoy together, and do so whenever we visit each other. I'm ambivalent because I'm not sure about any possible negative health implications. I'm an old guy who's nearing the bottom of the hill, so I'm not worried about me, but he's got a long life in front of him...
