with my 10 count travel humidor on the roof of my truck today. Heard it fall off going about 45 mph - cosmetic scratches only, even some yellow road strip paint, and it stayed closed. Cigars and cutter all well.

Testament to its construction and my getting older...

Things like that have never happened to me once.

Maybe 4 or 5 times though.... [frypan]

Few years back, I had made a short run - as I turned back onto my street, I told my wife that the portable phone laying in the street looked like the same model as ours, and I was going to take it home and see if it would work with our base.

Worked fine, because it was ours.

I had left it on top of the vehicle, never heard it fall when we rounded a corner. I was surprised nobody ran over it, but we weren't gone very long.

Had a scratch on it but worked for years afterward.

Funny, I was thinking I was glad it wasn't my phone. Don't think it would have survived. A drop from 2 feet has added some artistic black lines and spots on it already. Usually have had great luck with Motorola.

What brand was yours?

wasn't a cell phone, was some years ago, was a square portable toshiba, did nothing but work, work, work for years. Big, boxy, light - could hold it on your shoulder with your ear and talk hands free, crystal clear, good volume to hear it easily, etc. I tried to buy another one when the setup died, but the technology had long been surpassed and there was nothing similar to be had.

This was one where I always wondered if some neighbor was getting an earful, no scrambling technology or any sort and only several options for the setup to change it in case your neighbor had the same frequency.

That thing really worked far beyond it's expected life.

I recall those phones. Good thing they make them more durable these days (sarcasm alert). Need to get them in touch with the travel humidor guys...

Dont know if this is true or not but I was told that all the plastic, waterproof, crush proof, travel humis are made by Pelican and then whoever sells them just slaps their sticker on em. Either way they are made to take a beating. I'm sure someone could break one if they really tried but they can stand up to day to day abuse as shown here.
