I like La Gloria Cubanas, so I pulled the impulse buy trigger on one of the 2011 Limitada Flecha chests. I know it's a bit of a premium, but I like the vitola AND fancy boxes (and turtles).

http://www.cigarbid.com/Auction/Lot/1551766/La-Gloria-Cubana-2011-Edicion-Limitada-Humidor-48-Cigars/

Problem is, ole' chest number 62 of 110 has a big chip out of the enamel on the front, on the black side, exposing dull grey primer, and making my fancy box that I paid that premium for look like ****.

I contacted Customer Service, who spent three days finding out whether this - limited edition, hand numbered, sold only with cigars - humidor could be replaced on its own, despite my explanations that it would be extremely unlikely, unless they had smoked a chest at the office.

Three days later, they contact me stating that they will have to replace the entire unit or if I would like to call, perhaps something else could be worked out. I called them up and was offered $10 off, which I scoffed at, as these units have sold as low as $205.

Then they began the RMA process only to tell me they didn't have a unit to replace it with.

Now I am left with the question, do I just take then ten dollars and enjoy the cigars but not their fancy box, or do I stick CBid with shipping costs in both directions and a product that I can only imagine they are legally restricted from reselling because I have broken the seals and handled the product?

Backorder doesn't exist outrage. I'd be fine with a backorder. I had no intention of hammering these down quickly.

It's not really about some cosmetic damage on the box. That doesn't affect its efficacy or the cigars inside. This is a matter of principle. They're offering $10 off for damage to an essentially irreplaceable item that I want to keep, but accepting that would just validate their chitty lowball offer and poor resolution to the issue. I'd kind of rather cut off my nose to spite my face and stick them with a loss versus slightly less profit.

Wheel, I am in Nola, but post-Katrina transplant. It is shocking right now seeing how many people here just flat out don't work while they burn through their BP money. ****'s gonna hit the fan down here in another year or two when that dries up.

Back-in-the-day when I was in high school (...Catholic, Christian Brother-run...), our football team's uniforms were once modelled after LSU. The fact that my school's colors are also purple and gold made us look like li' Tigers. Eventually we grew out of that look and by my junior year all traces of looking like LSU were gone. HOWEVER, we put the fleur de lis on our helmets so we looked like purple Saints. Just couldn't escape those Louisana teams. [frypan]

Be thankful that they don't have replacements, or I'd be thinking "CI owned label".

Kinda feels like buying a new Mercedes and getting it delivered with one door a different color. Yeah, you've got a baller new Mercedes under the hood, but you are still going to wince every time you see it and people are going to laugh when you drive by.

If they had offered $20 off, I probably would have taken it begrudgingly, if not instantly, but four dollars off and free shipping for damaged goods?

For comparison, I bought a stainless steel kitchen cart topped with a maple butcher block from Overstock a couple months ago for about $200. While I was conditioning it with beeswax and mineral oil before using it, a big splinter pulled off. It effectively ruined the butcher block as a cutting surface (much like this chip ruins the collectible value of a limited release item), but it still maintains its function as a kitchen cart/table.

Overstock had replacements on hand and offered to replace the item and cover all shipping costs, or discount the item once they received a photo of the damage. I sent them photos, and asked if it would be possible to replace the butcher block only, as the unit is large and unwieldy to pack up and ship back to them, especially after hucking the packing materials. They said they'd contact their warehouse and see if it was possible, and applied a $15 credit to my account for the inconvenience.

Then, I got another message two days later saying they were still working with the warehouse to see if they could just replace the butcher block, rather than the entire unit, and applied ANOTHER $25 credit to my account for the delay.

The next day, they informed me that they were unable to replace only the butcher block, but gave me the choice between dealing with the return, or a 60% refund, ON TOP OF THE $40 CREDIT. My jaw just about dropped. This was my first purchase from overstock, and I spent chump change compared to what I have dropped here, yet they were bending over backwards to bring about satisfactory resolution. I took the 60% refund and put in a disgusting amount of hours resurfacing the block, and out the door, received like, 75% off.

I don't expect this from cbid, by any means, but I have dropped a pretty penny here and this is just piss-poor customer service. The agents are nice and everything, but for the insulting offer of a $10 refund, I'd kind of rather just return the chest with a note inside detailing the extent of my extremely contagious tuberculosis.

I call BS on this one. A matter of principle, huh?

Either the box really meant something to you or it didn't. Either it has collector/humidor value or it doesn't. If the damage is material, send everything back.

If it is imaterial, which you all but stated, get off your "high horse", settle the matter and quit wining. Offers aren't an insult, they are a place to begin negotiations. Nothing else. You already got your "pound of flesh".

BTW, did you even communicate the amount you think is fair?

It has collector/humidor value. I don't think I have ever brought that into question. I am saying that I could live with the cosmetic damage, but I should not pay the same price that someone else did for a pristine unit.

I paid X for Y. I received item Z and was offered $10.

Y - Z + $10 =/= X

Never had the opportunity to quote an amount I thought was fair. It was not a negotiation, it was an ultimatum. After they discovered they couldn't replace the item, I was told "I have already spoken with my supervisor and we can offer a $10 refund" and then in response to my grumblings and illustration of recent sales for the intact item as low as $205, was told "I already tried and we absolutely will not go any lower".

Like I said, it's a matter of principle. Do I vote with my wallet, or do I bite my tongue and stand for piss poor customer service in order to keep the item that I want, even if it's scuffed up. I'm merely asking people's opinions on the matter to see if I have a reasonable take on the situation.

Not sure why you seem so indignant about it.
