My wife and I will be celebrating a significant anniversary in the Dom Republic in a few months. We'll be staying at a resort in Punta Cana. Has anybody been to the area, and if so, what is the cigar atmosphere like? I would be looking to purchase much of their fine product, and would also be interested in factory tours.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks !

Bring your own cigars, unless you have plenty of disposable income. Cigars are cheaper here then there.
Bring some 1 dollar bills to tip, (but not every time) your drink will never go empty.
Avoid the guy on the beach with the boxes of koobans. Local shopkeepers will have a ''special box'' hidden under some stuff in a drawer behind the counter.....fakes.
Long ride to the factories from that part of the island.

All in all I had a blast while there, just wish I would have brought my own cigars with me.

Yep. twenty bucks will buy you a decent $8 Dominican cigar in Pumta Cana. While Cuban cigars are legally sold in the DR, the vast majority are frauds. Take your own cigars....and save a bundle!
I would say yes to a factory tour, but I wouldn't buy more than one or two at the factory either.

Otherwise, the DR is a great vacation spot.

I'm headed there in Jan for a wedding and plan on bringing my own cigars after all the posts I've ready over the years here. I'll return a few Opus X to their homeland just to ash them.
