My Gpop that smokes and that donated a few times to OpFTH.......is in hospital and was just told he has cancer. I dont know how bad or what type.

Send someone something they don't like and what are they supposed to do with it? Frame it? Be forced to smoke it? If they know someone who likes that cigar or might like it, then why not pass it along? It was given with the intent of enjoyment, the initial gifter should be taking the enjoyment from the giving, so rather than having the 1st recipient take no pleasure from saving or being forced to smoke something they might not enjoy, which, to me at least, would seem to defeat the entire "enjoyment" thing, they can pass it along and take the enjoyment from that.
