Spent last week in Istanbul. Prior to traveling, I read that the Turkish government was cracking down on smoking, so I reluctantly left cigars at home. Then, upon arrival, I discovered that everyone - everyone - smoked... cigarettes. (And hookahs.) And people smoked everywhere: pubs, streets, restaurants, boats, streets... but no cigars to be seen. Then one evening we decided to have drinks on a rooftop bar, and as I was ordering at the bar, I spied a humidor! RyJ's, Upmanns, and PSD4s. So I grabbed a Partagas, ordered a Chivas, and watched the sun go down over the city. A wonderful and memorable moment.

If I would have known that you were headed that way, I could have given you the skinny. Stationed in Izmir for a year (2010-2011). I know there is a lot to do in Istanbul, but did you get a chance to travel around a little outside of it?

Hope you have a memorable trip, fiddler. I'd love to visit that, and other ancient cities.
