WTF is going on with Gurkha these days? I remember when they were one damn fine smoke. I haven't smoked one for a long time and then, out of the blue, a friend of mine who apparently likes them, began giving me an occasional Gurkha. Incidentally, I am not a "moocher." I have given him many a cigar far better than the ones he gave me. Almost every one of the Gurkhas, save one, had major construction issues such as the wrapper coming off soon after lighting the stick up; uneven burn; continual and maddening re-lights and little bits of tobacco left in your mouth. And yes, I cut the cigar just right and I "toasted" the foot properly and made sure it is all aglow before I smoked🐴 . Other brands have decreased in quality but not as badly as Gurkha. Oh, I did taste one good Gurkha with no construction issues, called the Viper.

A lot of people around here have Gurkha construction problems. Exploding Gurkhas, they say.

I've been lucky, the Gurkhas I have, so far, have not had a problem. I like me some Gurkha Centurians.

And I still have a few of the purple band Ancient Warriors also. And I think I have some of the box pressed Nepalese Warriors (I think). I'll have to dig one of those out and check its explosive tendencies.

I saw the Viper either here or on CI. Almost placed an order. Guess I'll have to check it out.

Their cigars suck.

No kidding.

They're the Rolls Royce of cigars.

Several years ago, I won a Gurka cabinet humidor along with about 100 various Gurkha cigars. At that time, 90% of the cigars I smoked were Gurkha. Although I have smoked at least a few hundred of them (although I have not bought many over the past few years) & can honestly say I have had under 10 with the problems I read about here.

I think with a lot of rest time certain gurhkas can be smokable.

Gurkhas are all over the spectrum, from great to lousy. The only ones I've had wrapper issues with were the Blue Steel torpedos I've been burning to get rid of lately. Anything shipped from CBid could have wrapper problems. Some Gurkhas are made under license from Gurkha and are a different blend. I think the Blue Steel torps are in that category as well as being less than mediocre.
Centurians are good, Vipers are quite good and the Ancient Warriors are great. Another one I found to be great iin the past few months was the Gurkha Seduction.

Any of the B&M only Gurkhas are good.

Seek out, cellar reserve, ghost, seduction. They are actual Gurkhas (not licensed) and smoke fine.

Over the years I have tried about a dozen different Gurkhas with maybe another half dozen sitting around yet to be tried. Can honestly say none so far have had construction issues. A few had burn problems but nothing too serious. Taste is a different story. Some I like and others I didn't but that's subjective anyway.

Just smoked an original Shaggy from about 5 years ago. Real good, even burn right down to the nub.

How lond did we go without a Gurkha thread? Bueller? Bueller?

Even I, smoker of crap dollar cigars like Flor Del Doo Doo, Ron Mexico and Mark Twain, haven't had a CBID Gurkha in a while. Might have to dig one out of the DR container in the coolerdor.
