A couple of nights ago I stopped into the ol' watering hole for a brew and a smoke. I pulled a Diesel Torpedo, with the band on the foot, out of the humidor sitting on the bar. I grabbed a beer and went out to the patio. I fired up the Diesel and was just sitting there watching for the stray cats to show up, when all of a sudden I had the realization that I thought I was tasting hints of leather and bread and walnuts out of that Diesel. It had good flavor all the way to the fingertip burning stage. I've had many other tasty cigars, but I never got that sense of speciifc flavors until this one.

Of course, I'm just gonna keep smoking them and enjoying them and not worry about defining each flavor, but it was fun to notice.

=p~

After that I had one of those Moya cigars. It was a good smoke, strong. But I realized that it didn't have a flavor profile to speak of, other than it was just strong, tasted ok, easy to smoke.

congratulations, its always exciting when you can identify something as far as flavor from a cigar. Most of the time I am not paying attention and couldn't tell you what I taste either. I do find that it has alot to do with what i drink and eat before I smoke.

One of those "just me and my cigar moments..."

Those moments are far and few in between but when they happen they are magical. You don't even realize it until it's past. I remember sitting on my porch in the summer of 2012 with a Romeo y Julieta No2 that came in a red tubo I got from Jespear and before I knew it 90 mins had gone by and I was putting out an amazing smoke in a daze. That was the first time I got lost and it was just me and the smoke.

97% of the validity of a cigar is timing. I have had cigars with friends and a moment that have topped the list for the best cigars ever made that when smoked later alone just were not the same.

2% is an experience alone when a cigar is either great or not so great.

1% is a cigar that lives up to the write up or when the absolute solitude of you and that cigar makes you truly pay attention, not unlike a woman, it is what is on the venue NOW and nothing else matters.

To me, smoking a cigar is not an action rather more of an event. The world stops when you decide to take the time to smoke a cigar. The only times you will ever really appreciate a cigar is when it is with friends, uninterrupted or the time is taken to make it an event. The rest of your smoking is just smoking.
