Nobody was ever to forget Pearl Harbor. Now half of high school graduates don't know what Pearl Harbor was, or when it happened.

Sad as it is, people may remember the event for a while, but will certainly forget the lessons.

True, we do a lousy/PC job of teaching history, however we made up and became friends with Japan.

My Step Father who was a Marine in the South Pacific during WWII had a daughter that married a fine Japanese man. Her husband's Father was also fighting on some of the same South Pacific Islands as a Japanese soldier. They had a great marriage and all the parents got along just fine.

I don't see that in the future for Islamic terrorists.

I remember it as if it was yesterday. We were on our honeymoon in Playa del Carman, Mexico. We flew out of Providence, RI on 9/10.

Woke up in the morning of 9/11 in our room at the resort, ordered room service breakfast, the wife hit the shower and I turned on the TV to watch the news. There was the footage of a sky scraper on fire in some big city somewhere. Everything was in Spanish so I thought it was some building in Mexico City or Rio de Janeiro or something at first. Then I realized it was NYC. “That’s odd… wonder what happened.”

Then, right there on the screen, the second plane hit and I though HOLY $HIT! Called the wife out of the shower to translate what hell they were saying. We were numb. The whole day, everyone was glued to the TV screens all around the resort as the reports crept in.

Later learned the planes originated from Boston. We had friends and family that flew in and out of Boston for our wedding. Spent a good part of the day trying to call home to see if everyone got back alright and let them know we were alright. It was hard to get through because the phone lines were busy (Your call cannot go through, please try again later…. Your call cannot go through, please try again later…) It was a totally messed up day.

When they shut down all air travel, people were stranded at the resort for days. The resort was cool about it. They gave folks any open rooms they had pro bono because new arrivals weren’t coming in either.

Very surreal honeymoon.

(Fast forward to today, I’m not married to that bitch anymore. Maybe I should have taken 9/11 as a hint).

My thoughts today are about those that were murdered on 9/11 and their families. Today I will not discuss or think about the evil involved with 9/11. For me this is a somber day of remembrance that is only about those who died and their families.

Had a Texas originator in my school. It was funny when people told him "Remember the Alomo" because he'd get so mad. Well, that was until they found out he was a black belt and had made news in Texas for beating up three guys in an alley when he was 10 while they attempted to rape a girl.

It. If you meant Alamo you need to articulate better.

Lost six friends that day - five in NYC and one at the Pentagon. That does not include the loss of our neighbor across the road - whom I did not really know.

On a normal day it would have been much worse, but it was a primary election day in NY and many people were late heading into work after voting in the primaries. A friend is alive because he stayed late at the train station handing our flyers for a candidate he supported in the election. Seven of 12 people in his office perished in the attack.

Our office was in NYC across from LGA airport. When the first plane hit, we thought it was a fluke accident. When the second hit we all knew immediately it was terrorism. Folks outside of NYC had better news coverage of what was going on as most of the TV and radio stations broadcast their signals from World Trade 2. The only station we could receive was a Hispanic station broadcasting from the Empire State building. Right after the second plane hit, I ran over to the bank and withdrew a good bit of cash to hold as I knew we were going to be shut down for a while.

Later on I worked as part of a consultant team for Bank of NY to assist in the repair of their office just north of where the Towers stood. I also worked in the pit prepping the "bathtub walls" for the pouring of new concrete to keep the water out. Very humbling experience. Still difficult to talk about. Very surreal experience.

I will never forget the empty feeling when traveling to the site a week later to work with Bank of NY. The smell of the fire and dust in the air as well as the wet, pulverized concrete will never leave my memory.

It was the beginning of the end of my time in NYC. Part of the reason we left NY was to not live in a target zone.
