Been on here for a little bit but just recently registered. I have read several posts to get the lay of the land and I have a question about over bidding. Would you consider overbidding to be paying more than the retail price (aka CI price)? Or would it be paying more than the average sales price on this site? For example...
"Box-A" normal price in CI is $70. On here over the last few weeks it has sold for $31-$43. Is paying above the higher end of the spectrum over bidding? Does this affect the prices of upcoming auctions? The quick buy price is $45.
May be putting too much thought into this but I'll ask anyway since I would consider even the QB price a bargain. Not paying $7-$9 for singles of VS so maybe I'm over analyzing....

I would venture to say if you go over the Mother Ship price, you are definately over-bidding. You will see it every now and then. There is another thread that has some wild examples. I think if you are going over the quick-bid price you are over-bidding. I try and track an item for a few days to see the ball park price. I then stay in that price range. No need to get in a hurry and pay over that price since all you have to do is wait a day or so and the item will pop up again. Expect a few comments about paying too much and getting a platinum card to avoid paying for over-bids! Don't call Trish right away...she'll just get upset. Wait a few days and you'll figure it out.

Watch auctions to see how much they're going for before you get too excited on something selling less than retail. For example, I was bidding on a box several months ago for 125, retail was 200 (making numbers up,don't remember details) 125 was my max bid but I wanted the box and it's still 75 under retail. Well, I let it go for a bit more and then a few days later the mothership had it on sale for 125. So, I paid sale retail and got it less than the auction I lost.

Bottom line is know what you're willing to pay and keep that a hard limit, don't get caught up in bidding and read the descriptions. Look around at retail shops to see sale prices as well.

Only thing you can't do is over analyze the numbers. Underanalyzing of prices gets us into the whole topic of overbidding. If people paid attention then overbid threads would be very few and far between.

Overbidding = Bidding more than the lowest current for sale price.

Depends. Is it available at that moment at CI? If not and you want that item immediately, and you're willing to pay more...

There's a simple formula:
Take whatever DPNewell paid, and double that........that is your max bid.
Anything over that is an over bid.

google is your friend.....

As we approach the Holidays you will see prices creep higher and a number of overbids. This can be attributed to less seasoned people visiting the site for gift purchases and some who just DGAF and want the goods regardless of price.

Some of the best values and bid sniping take place after people get their January credit card invoices. Lots of good value to be had for small amount of coin.

Thanks for the reminder, dug out a second set while doing a redundant inventory of some kit for work. The Intercontinental Express may be making a detour on it's way to PA.
