Just finished pouring up 24 quarts of cherry bourbon. Xmas gifts for friends and golfing buddies.

Should be consumed slowly and in small amounts.

Hope no one gets hurt.

Here goes:

Four handles of bourbon

10 cups of sugar

9 cans of sour cherries.

5 gal bucket with lid that will seal.

Ensure buck is clean, pour bourbon and sugar into buck. Open and drain cherries and add to bucket. Mix well, seal and place in closet for six months.

Once the six months are over, pour the c/bourbon into mason or ball quart jars. I like to separate the cherries and add them to the jars first. It will work out that you will have almost one cup of cherries for each quart.

=p~

The above will make 12 quarts.

I'm guessing this is what my grandparents called cherry bounce. Too much and you bounced off the walls.

Been drinking cherries with bourbon forever. Add about 3 cherries to each drink. When you get to the 5th drink, start fishing out the cherries that have been soaking in the bourbon for a while and they are delicious!

I can't imagine how good they would be after 6 months!

Probably so.

I need to make some of this. By handles of bourbon, do you mean the 1.75 L bottles? I'm thinking you meant 12 pints, not 12 quarts.

Canned cherries? Wouldn't it be better with fresh?

I think the sour cherries add something to the flavor profile. You could be right but I'm only following the recipe that I was given. You will get some of the cherry flavor in the liquid it self, but the cherries absorb a butt load of bourbon. When you bite into one it is like a bourbon bombs explodes in your mouth.

You are correct on the 1.75L, but it is quarts not pints.

At first glance, it looked like the yield was around 2 - 2 1/2 gallons. But, I forgot to consider the displacement of the cherries.

Anyway, I've got a 5 gallon glass carboy in a laundry room cabinet. It's been empty a while. I think I know what needs to go in it.

What bourbon do you use?

Do you melt the sugar before you put it in?

Do you use a particular bran of cherries or do you just get what ever large bottle of cherries you find at the grocery store?

For this recipe I use what ever is on sale at the Class 6. You don't have to melt the sugar but be sure and stir well. Does not hurt to stir again at the 1-2 month time frame. Wally world or most grocers carry cans of sour or tart cherries. I believe they are 10oz can. These are the ones you will want to use.

Just keep in mind this is not something you will want to drink a quart of at a time. It is sweet and probably could do a lot of damage. For me it would be a couple of fingers after a decent meal.

Anthony,

You are correct, I had a brain fart and was going off of a FOG's memory. The recipe calls for 4 handles of bourbon and 9 cans of the sour cherries.

Two handles would have yielded 12 pts. 🌫
