...is there anybody in there?

Just nod if you can hear me...

David Gilmour has one of the best guitar solos in the history of the free frickin world at the 5:05 mark of Comfortably numb.

I can hear you…

But David Gilmour serving up the best guitar solo falls on a deaf hear.

Great Pink Floyd track though!

You can't say it falls on deaf ears and not present a viable alternative. And I didn't say it was the best, I said it was one of the best. You said it was a great PF track... and it is. I am merely pointing out his talent as a guitarist.

Like many things... music is subjective. If you like country, you probably have no idea that Randy Rhoads was God's guitarist. 😰

How can you possibly have a serious discussion about great guitar solos and offer Randy Rhoads as God's guitarist. [crapful]

Don't you remember that "Clapton is God"!

Alternatives… Clapton, BB King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Rory Gallagher, Derek Trucks, … there's far too many to mention. But they are also a different style.

Gilmour was great at monetizing Pink Floyd after Richard Wright and finally Roger Waters left. IMHO Floyd went downhill after Gilmour took over, especially after Waters left.

Clapton stole most of his sh*t from Jeff Beck... and George Harrison. So you just effed yourself from the start.

Randy Rhoads was the most talented Guitarist who had DEATH kill his potential, and not dope or a broad. His work speaks for itself.

Why did he die early? GOD wanted him playing in Heaven. /discussion

Guitarworld rates "Stairway to Heaven" as the No1 guitar solo!!! Are you freakin kidding me? And you expect that to be a credible source???

Ironically on a google search for "guitarworld no1 guitar solo" this fall as eighth on a search, under all the acclimates for Stairway.

Clapton stole from Harrison - Maybe his wife but George couldn't hold the pick for EC.

Stealing from Beck is laughable. EC was playing with John Mayall long before Beck even made the scene.

Have you ever taken guitar lessons?

Flap your yapper all day long. Scream louder, do what you need to do... you are WRONG.

Eric Clapton is good. Always has been. I like him. He ain't Randy Rhoads.

Have I ever taken guitar lessons? Nope. Have you? And even if you have, does it make your ears more qualified than mine?

Nope. Much like tasting ice cream, listening to music is quite subjective.

Your taste sucks buffalo balls and my taste rules. Deal with it.

Started taking guitar lessons when I was 7, Played acoustic & electric. My last instructor was Victor Lawrence who also instructed Joe Negri. Also played Alto Sax.

If you've never picked-up an instrument and played yourself… I'm sorry. And Randy Rhoads is not all that. You need to expand your music.

Taking lessons from obscure talents, doesn't qualify you as an authority in music... any more than being the guy who received Chris Kyle's reports in Iraq makes me a sniper.

Never claimed to be any kind of authority. Only offered the opinion that David Gilmour sucks as "one of the best guitar solos in the history of the free frickin world" as you put it.

And offered the opinion that if you've never played an instrument, it's your loss. That is all.

Expand what music you listen too. Randy Rhoads plays one style of music, which died long ago. Along with Ozzy's addiction, TV show, and career. Eric Clapton is selling out Madison Square Garden for his 70th Birthday. Ozzy & Randy are drooling on themselves on the couch while Sharon feeds them.

Not one mention of Jimi Hendrix

An Freebird is the greatest guitar solo off all time, I remember when it came out had the t-tops out of my firebird, mullet blowing in the wind… wait maybe that was Joe Dirt or another movie.

I had to laugh about this...

cacman, I was drinking beers and listening to music (obviously). Pardon my inability to listen to reason at that particular moment in time. I get that playing a guitar is a learned skill, and some styles are more difficult than others.

I was slightly UTI. 😰
