Raymond and Bubba (Alabama mechanical engineers) were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up. A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. 'We're supposed to find the height of the flagpole,' said Bubba, "but we don't have a ladder.' The woman said, " hand me that wrench out of your toolbox." She loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from their toolbox, took a measurement, and announced, 'Eighteen feet, six inches,' and walked away. Raymond shook his head and laughed. 'Ain't that just like a Miss know-it-all woman! We ask for the height and she gives us the length!' Bubba and Ray are still working for the government.

I know some government engineers just like these. To be fair, I also know some that are hard working dedicated engineers.

Speaking of Engineers:

FOUR ENGINEERS TRAVELLING IN A CAR

There are four engineers traveling in a car; a mechanical engineer, a chemical engineer, an electrical engineer and a computer engineer. The car breaks down.

"Sounds to me as if the pistons have seized. We'll have to strip down the engine before we can get the car working again", says the mechanical engineer.

"Well", says the chemical engineer, "it sounded to me as if the fuel might be contaminated. I think we should clear out the fuel system."

"I thought it might be an grounding problem", says the electrical engineer, "or maybe a faulty plug lead."

They all turn to the computer engineer who has said nothing and say: "Well, what do you think?"

"Ummm - perhaps if we all get out of the car and get back in again?"

Reminds me of the azz doctor who rebuilt an engine through the exhaust.

Flawed. The government doesn't trust me with tools. And I'd probably contract that out.

But the contractors would be completely qualified. Validated to come from a disadvantaged area, working for a female or minority owned company, and a member of a protected minority, just not necessarily qualified to actually handle the job at hand.* [sarcasm]

* To be clear, there are plenty of folks that match the former criteria that can do the job, but they mostly work in private industry and avoid government work.🐴
