Benn looking into getting one to enjoy the trails with my son. Anyone have any experience?
Noob to the scene and info on the specific boards can be overwhelming.
Talked to a few bike shops. As an entry level, considering the Kona Blast or the Trek Marlin 7.

Hey noob. You live in mtn biking valhalla but it depends on what kinda trails you intend to do. My main mtn bike for many years was a Yeti made in Boulder and a great advanced trails bike but they are spendy. Currently riding an Iron Horse with full suspension.

If you intend to just do forest roads there are many for half the price that will work just as well. Also depends on whether you are looking for a hard tail or full suspension. If you haven't been fitted a good bike shop can help with that but you might want to look at used on Craig's etc since people upgrade often and bikes depreciate quickly.

DED - been fitted by 2 different bike shops for a 27.5". As a beginner just hope to ride the basic trails in the area.
One shop recommended a starter bike at $2,500, another shop at $1,000. I'm fine with a hardtail to start, but want disc brakes.
Have been checking Craigslist but most are 29's.

Nothing wrong with a 29R if the frame geometry works for you. I would think you should be able to find a good used Spec Stump Jumper or Trek 6 Series for under $500. Personally, I would not go much over that until you are sure of your needs. Good luck.

^^^ Many thanks for the advice. Am visiting another shop this week that is a Spec and Trek dealer. They also send used end-of-season models.
Really like the Kona, just not the price as a starter.
