MEMPHIS (RNN) - A police officer died Saturday night after he was shot during a traffic stop, WMC Action News 5 reported.
A bystander used a police radio to report the shooting at 9:18 p.m., officials reported.
Officer Sean Bolton was taken to Regional One in critical condition after someone in a vehicle shot him. He died at the hospital.
The suspect was still at large, and authorities were searching for him using air and ground resources.
"We ask prayers for the family, we ask prayers for this officer's fellow officers and just for our city as a whole," Mayor A.C. Wharton Jr. said.
The last slaying of a Memphis officer in the line of duty occurred in December 2012, with the death of Martoiya Lang, according to the Memphis PD website.
The shooting is the second in three week during traffic stops in Memphis, WMC Action News 5 stated. In the previous incident, the suspect was killed.
