Well,

It has finally happened my super cool, party animal persona may have finally caught up with me....

My BP has been REALLY elevated for about 10 days. Went to see my primary care Doc ( for the 1st time).

I got an EKG, all good and go back for Labs tomorrow.

Got a scrip for Atenolol. . Any of you guys take this stuff ?

sigh

many, many people have HBP

and it is pretty common...

some people never know it...

I do know it is not something you want to ignore.

losing weight , exercising and eating right can cure very mild cases....

what you dont want to do is ignore it and

"purty hearty" like nothing is wrong....

moderation in everything....

been taking atenolol for years.....BP and other vitals have been terriffic......i'm a short (5'3") chubby man (228#) 64 yrs old. sugar is my nemesis now but under control. This med is a no brainer and I've never had any side effects except for a couple of times where i felt a little slower than usual. If you start to feel logey for a cpl days, just give a call to your doc. He may have you cut them in half for a while. I hit 212 on the treadmill and my cardio did an angiogram....found nothing and put me right on this med and it's been all good since.🌫

You just haven't calmed down from the 125mph ride. Has Terrie up'd your life insurance?

One bad reading and they prescribed? I'd hold off and try to get in better shape, especially since you've been laid up. Once you start the beds you don't know if it's them if you.

No Bro,,

My BP has been pegged at 200/100 for over a week,

Don't disagree about the fitness issue. Before I got hurt I played gold 3 times a week and my work kept fit and stuff. It will be a year tomorrow that I got hurt and I am sedentary now.

The doc said , i will be on these for a month , recheck and if MAYBE if all is better wean me off and see what happens.

He also said , a continuous high BP for even a realtively short amount of time will cause damage.

There is an issue,,,

if that's the BP med that is also a diuretic. I had an immediate reaction of gout due to what was then a high uric acid level (since resolved, I am gout free forever!). If you have a uric acid level above 5+, be careful, even though most docs look at anything below 6 to be "normal". For me, a specialist said I need to be below 5. As the diuretic removes water from your body, the percentage of uric acid rises and BOOM! Gout, real bad.

Doc switched me to Lisinipril, works great and no adverse side effects.

TW is right, this seems like an episode caused by something else other than creeping BP that needs to be medicated.

You may want to trade in Nurse Terrie's aftermarket frontal adornments.
