Spent a long day at the camp today. We had 2 tractors discing and 3 bush hogging. About 6 guys cleaning up trails and checking on stands.

All the ground is ready for seed which will be planted around mid September. We do oats, wheat and some winter peas.

I tried and love the turnips and rape. Planted that last year in an area and the deer hammered it.

Just curious if many here hunt and do all the prep before hand. What do you plant? Any ideas worth sharing? Deer hunters are suckers to try new things.

The farm that hunt has winter wheat in 3 spots and alfalfa in another.Between that and the creek that runs through it little else is needed.I just need to get out there and place my trail cam.

Looking forward to a 3+ day Elk hunt.

Don't believe in baiting.

We may differ in definitions of baiting, but I agree with you.

We, my son and I, typically hunt acorn flats to find deer. White Oaks are a magnet for deer.

I take no issues with growing food sources for the herd. After all, the entire herd benefits along with rabbits and turkeys and others. Countless studies have proven the benefits of food plots.

I don't approve of dumping corn or other feed to hunt over.

Turnips and rape is seriously messed up in a Bill Cosby sort of way.

Going to hang stands this weekend. Beans will be in the fields until past archery open day. I focus on the oaks and field edges. Pretty dry around here, so will scout a farm pond or two.

That's Great, MB. Sound like it was a good productive weekend with the guys. I'd love to hunt fields, like they do in S GA. I hunt up in the N GA Mountains, and we don't put out food plots, but scout trails, scrapes, etc.

In Regard to bait, hunting over bait "is legal" in S GA, but not in N GA. In fact, "Doe Days" in S GA comprise of the entire hunting season, compared to only 5 Doe Days where I hunt.

We try our best to manage our herd, but that really is not much other than our no doe policy. We do put out 200 lbs of corn every time we go to the cabin, regardless of time of year.

Two years ago in the mountains there were no acorns, due to the intense rains we had that Spring, and we try to feed the wildlife up there as much as we can.

I personally think hunting over bait is unethical, but it's legal in S GA. because they're so many dang deer down there.
