They are number one, according to at least one writer (on their team website):

Numbers don't lie.
Maybe they'll be favored this weekend?
One guy behind us raised his voice and said "Let's be competitive!"
It was inspiring...
Jets are better without Rex. He makes the Pats game their Superbowl every year.

I think my love for Sexy Rexy has blurred the truth.
I thought he was a very good head coach, but based on his Bills, and how the Jets are fairing, it appears I was mistaken.
I still love his persona in our division and hope he stays.
His brother sucks.

Yep and he is the best one !
Is this one of those foot fetish jokes? =d>
When I go to the Meadowlands each season, it's refreshing to see the fans sitting quietly telling us not to be silly.

What apparently is lost on you my friend is that I am realistic Jets fan. We are off to a great start but I am under no impression we are as good as the Pats. I think the Jets can beat the Pats on any given day but they have to play a perfect game.
but the Jets can still win more games simply due to their bruising style. Excellent D and power running that can be life threatening to a tackler.
Chris Ivory is one of the most aggressive and punishing runner I have ever seen. He has laid out many a DB this year by bowling right over them. He never gives up and fights for every yard.

I haven't really seen him play yet.
I'm looking forward to it.
And I hear you about being realistic. I was a Pats fan before the Brady/Belichick era, so I know your pain.
But even then it was fun to rag on the opposing fans.
Yeah you're right...Pats suck!!! J E T S.....JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!!!!!!
yes, that is what I meant. But I still hate 'em! Just realistic. That style always has a shot, every game.
GO PATS
Great game.
Jets are for real.
Not only are the Jets for real, but they are proving that Ryan, with the circus of nonsense he creates, may have held them back. That's why I always say he's a great coordinator but not cut out to lead both body AND mind as a head coach.
Sure, sure, the players love(d) him, but as tough and physical as they were, they'd lose focus, commit ridiculously aggressive penalties, and do everything but win in their annual Super Bowls against the Pats. Of course Belichick's stoic act made Ryan and team even more insane.
Exhibit B...Buffalo Bills.
