Hey All Ya"all - anyone else having issues with the caps on Baitfish smokes? One the newer label I have not had one yet where the cap did not unravel off after cut and fired up. Just wondering if it is across the board.......[ram27bat]

Been a good bit since I've bought any, got a deal on a brick around the same time I didn't care to smoke em so much anymore...

Similar though, had several Jericho Hill Shots that the cap was like a hat on the head of the cigar. Didn't need a cutter, just flicked it off with my thumbnail. If it had a tight draw I'd nip it, but would try to unravel as soon as I lit it.

Haven't had any cap issues but the ones I've been ashing up have 2+ years of nap time so maybe outside of the construction issues you're experiencing.

Been having the exact same issue youngra, they can't be too dry ( I always have and will continue to maintain high 60's to 70% RH for storage ) and you can only nip the cap.
Once I break the brick open I keep them in an empty Chiselito box, cello on.
Taste the same but I'm noticing construction issues with the brick I'm working on now. I have another sitting since they're good cold weather smoke size so I hope this isn't going to be a permanent issue.The ones I put in my 10 count for the week that are drier at the end of the week are worse..

Thanks for the replies - I have some older stock too that is A-OK - just happened o open up a newer brick for a trade with my nephew - still smoke-able, but the unraveling has gone as far as 1/3 the way up the cigar a couple of times - think I'll try punching the next one.

Spin the cigar in the cutter. Instead of clipping the cap which I have found cracks the cap sometimes, I've started turning the cigar in the cutter. It acts more like a can opener with the blade slicing the cap off.

Set the cutter on the cap to the depth you want to clip, close the cutter down onto the cap apply some pressure and turn the cigar to slice the cap off cleanly.

Tried a punch - no go - still had issues - will try the spinning and a v cut next - hang on to your oldies if ya gots em! Well - smoke 'em, but appreciate what ya gots!

One thing I do when I forget a cutter and works well on PITA cigar construction is use a small keychain knife and rotate it around the cigar to remove the cap - different twist on what cobra posted.
