Tesla CEO Elon Musk is pretty confident that all cars will be self-driving soon.

Elon Musk: "Not having a self-driving car in 15 years will be like still owning a horse."

I like driving myself but there are times that I may use the self-driving mode such as longer road trips.

What say you? Would you buy one?

Have a lot of respect for Musk, his accomplishments, and what's he's done with Tesla.

But this is the same man that said they could bring a rocket back from space and successfully land it on a platform in the middle of the ocean. And we know how that worked out.

Crusie-Control is as far as I go with trusting "self-driving".

I'd say they are way past due.

If we could all but eliminate traffic accidents....and allow self-driving cars to maintain just a car length or so between vehicles even at highway speeds....wow. I don't think we can easily comprehend what a monumental effect we'd get from the savings in life, injuries, commute times, etc.

I get where they are going with these... but how do they account for unfavorable road conditions? I mean... I don't use cruise control when it is raining or snowing because you never know when you are going to need to make corrective measures, how do they know that the car that used to be in front of you is now in the ditch/median, because it spun out or hydroplaned off the road?

It would take like 16 hours to get to LA... 😟

If they build it, I will drive it.

Or ride in it on long trips, puffing a stogie and swirling a finger of scotch with the other hand.

I remember Michael Knight catching cat naps on the way to the next adventure whilst KITT faithfully manned the conn. I could do that.

Would rather have turbo boost, though... 😟

So, CS....did you already get rid of your TV...and your laptop....and your ipad....and your phone....and your watch....and your DVD player.....and .....wait...they're already hacking cars.....I see lots of potential 'issues', but I see the benefits making this a very worthwhile enterprise

Google's self driving cars, which operate in real traffic on real roads, have logged around 2 million miles in 6 years, 1.25 million of them autonomously, have yet to be at fault in an accident when the computer is in control. So far their accident record is minor accidents only and all due to either them being hit by other vehicles while they are parked or having accidents when the human driver overrides the computer and takes control of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Shelley, Stanford's autonomous suped-up Audi TTS, has been running 120+ MPH on the track and has been outdriving professional race car drivers in the process for some time now.

The computer's reaction time will always best yours, and it can push the limit of control of the vehicle far more accurately than you can. Let's face it, you're obsolete.

Computers will probably be far better at accelerating into the flow of traffic from on-ramps than the clowns here.
