My first Pink Floyd experience was my friend saying you got to listen to this, telling me to lay back on the water bed with the lights off with headphones on..... Echoes....23 minute adventure. I proceed to collect every Floyd vinyl album up to about Animals - got bored after that. Their first two I bought as cut outs at the discount bin back 1973.
By the way, founding member Syd Barrett was subject of "shine on you crazy diamond". He did go crazy and left the band after first album.
Pink was Pink Anderson and Floyd was Floyd Council.....neither were band members but inspiration for the name.
