AL.com - Jan 23 - Sneaky Alabama hound dog completes half-marathon
At the Trackless Train Trek Half-Marathon in Elkmont last weekend, one entrant showed up without completing so much as a training run prior to the event.
Granted, she did have a leg up on the competition. Or, well, two of them.
Runners World featured the story of Ludivine the hound dog on its website Friday. Apparently, the canine's owner let her outside Saturday morning, and the pup somehow found her way to the starting line.
She kept pace with the runners, and finished the 13.1-mile race in an hour and 32 minutes, according to the article.
Oh, and she also finished in sixth place overall. All the while her owner, April Hamlin, had no idea.
The race began in the small north Alabama town of Elkmont and stretched across county roads and trails, including the Richard Martin Trail—part of the Rails to Trails Conservancy.
According to the event's Facebook page, the race was a fundraiser to benefit the Elkmont High School cross country and track and field teams.
