Alright fellas, time for some advice giving.
So I am going to be doing some field training for the Army next month and I plan on bringing some tins of Nub 430 and John Bull tins. Would you advise cutting them here so I don't have to bring a cutter? Or would that much time with an open cap dry them out too fast?

I plan on only bringing these so I don't risk losing or ruining the good smokes.

Take a decent quality inexpensive cutter with you.

Pre-cutting the cigars runs the risk of having the wrappers completely unravel on you if you bang the tins around.
If those cigars come in cello, getting rid of the cello ahead of time also increases the chance of damage due to rough handling.

Put the cigars in a ziplock bag with a small boveda pack and then put that bag inside another bag and you should be set for keeping the cigars humidified.

I was planning on just leaving them in the cello in the tins. Would I still need a pack if I did that? But your idea of the bags and small pack would work as well.

I was a little unclear, I didn't mean to remove them from the tins, I meant leave them in the cello, in the tins and then bag the tins up with the boveda pack.

I have no idea what weather conditions you will be experiencing, but having the boveda pack certainly can't hurt.

I honestly do not know the weather either, I have never been to this part of the country before. I may keep them in a bag with a pack and then take out a few for the day or something of the sort..

You can cut with a pocket knife, why bother worrying about cutting the cap?

When I'm not in my recliner in the garage, I don't have a cutter on me. I use my Leatherman.

If you can't bring a herfador or similar with some Bovedas, pack em in a thick plastic bag with a Boveda and you'll be fine.

Or for added insurance, buy some NUB tubos. I'd send you some but I gave away my last box to help blueboy fill his humidor.

Just bite the cap off. Or are you training for the French army?

I carry a plastic punch on my key chain....always gets through TSA security fine.

I agree with cammie but there is a simple technique....soooooooooooooo, I suggest you bite a few caps off of the cigars you are smoking now so you know how to do it. Not difficult but try it before hand.....just sayin'🌫

How in the world do you bite the cap off without tearing or eating a mouthful of tobacco??

Ruined many caps that way......if you cant carry a punch or a pocket knife, precutting - while not preferred - works ok if you use a punch or v cut that does not damage too much of the cap.

I can carry a knife and a cutter, I was just thinking about what would be easiest to do.
