Ahhhh Fat Tuesday. Jackson MS is close enough to get excited about it, yet to far for schools and businesses to close.

Now for 40 days of no seafood for me. Those Catholics drive the price up until after Easter. That's when to crawfish pot gets to rolling some water!!!!!

If you have never visited NOLA during Mardi Gras, you might be wise. It's fun, I've done it, don't have to do it again. I Love to visit outside of Mardi gras though.

It's always been on my bucket list to fill a U-Haul full of beads and go to Mardi Gras.

You don't take them there. You get beads at Mardi Gras. And if you are lucky you may even get a painted coconut at the Zulu parade. 🌫

Just watch out for the gypsy woman who looks young but is really the old woman who paints asses red.

The key is quality not quantity......buy the expensive and unique beads. Hang them around your neck and the ladies will beg for them.

close enough...but I think you meant tongue IN cheek.

but, though controversial, the conspiracy theory is that 16th century (I think) Pope ordered it to boost sagging fishing industry sales in which the Vatican had investments. Not much profit for Jews and Protestants there.

Sorry.

You would be correct on the tongue in cheek, I was just testing the waters. The rest sounds a a little fishy to me.

I think it has more to do with the parve law according to the Jews with the exception that The Church maintains that reptiles and amphibians are also accepted to eat during days of fast. There might have been a seafood crisis; however, the fast was much more strict in those days so it would have been more of a loosening of restriction. So we basically went from only fruits and vegetables to all things that can be eaten with dairy. I'm sure this can be argued but I can see the purpose.

Keep in mind that those guidelines are the bare minimum and that things such as reconciling your grudges, almsgiving, and other charitable works are an important aspect of Lent as well.
