About a month ago, there was a fatal drunk driving accident. The drunk killed a sober couple in their 50s on their way home from dinner. There were piles of flowers, ribbons, candles, etc piled up on two sides of the intersection.

Because I drive through the the intersection bringing my boy home each day, it is somewhat haunting even now. I can't help but to look at the rememberances left behind.

I have noticed the piles get incrementally smaller every other day or so. Is that by design? Who takes them away? Who decides when the items are removed.

I know.... Odd azz question. But it might help me get this out of my head.

In our old neighborhood two teenaged boys died in a car accident, kids kept it up for more than year. Finally some of the neighbors got tired of the mess in their front yard and cleaned it up.

On country roads there are some that have lasted for several years, usually a cross and some artificial flowers.

Our former county coroner used to paint a cross on the roadside to remind drivers to pay attention.

What? It's not like the dead people are going to notice. By all accounts they're either burning in a lake of fire or in paradise.

Either way, nobody is going to miss a bouquet or two. Nome sayin'?
