Mrs. Waldo said we would/could do the Bourbon Trail next month for our 38th Anniversary!

Need some advice so I can plan for end of next month, it's Memorial Day weekend but we will start down that way on the 25th.

She did offer some other options, visit Memphis or Nashville for the long weekend. I've only been to those cities for business and never a tourist hour spent. Enough to do in those cities for a couple days?

What can you guys recommend?

THANKS!

And congrats on reaching 38 years. With a wife like that it is no wonder you made it. You are blessed.

Is the wife going to go to all of the distilleries that you visit or is she going to do her thing while you are out and about?

Is she really into Kentucky bourbon?

On my recent trip I saw several women with their husbands and for the most part they did not seem to be enjoying themselves as much as their husbands were.

Nashville and Franklin just to the south are chock full of historical sites to visit. There's the grand Ole opry if you get a chance to catch a show. Franklin cigar is a pretty cool good old boys kind of shop.

Mrs W is not, she will be driving, lol. I've been after her to sample again, college years haunt her still.

She's doing it for me, to get away from home, different then going to San Antonio/Keys etc for a long weekend. We can drive so I don't use up my air miles, I know when I start work again Italy will be back on the agenda. I will owe her big time. She likes hotel *** so hopefully...

Nashville to start might be a good idea, we can stop a just a few distilleries as we head back north. I don't need to see them all so win/win.

Which is the way it should be.

I'm a lucky man, all she has done for me and all that I have put her through and here we are.

Hi Ho!

Sounds like you married up like several of us around here.

You have several options because in KY you can turn in any direction and hit a distillery with a rock. If you do Nashville first you can hit Jim Beam on the way north just off of I-65. They have a couple of different tours. The long tour last around an hour and a half that takes you through several parts of the distillery and even gives the opportunity for you to purchase a bottle of Knob Creek that you bottle. The short tour takes about half the time as the long tour and both conclude with taste sampling. From there it is not far from Heaven Hill and I recommend their tasting tour. It cost $20 but you get to sample four of their products and get a historical overview of KY bourbon and their brands.

Another option is to stay a night in eastern Louisville and make a thirty minute drive to the east and tour Buffalo Trace and from there on to Wild Turkey and or Woodford.

Each distillery has something that is unique to them but for the most part one barrel of bourbon looks like the next.

As far as as enjoyment, I would recommend Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey and Jim Beam but the others were good in their own right.

I will say not to buy any of the products at the distilleries. We found that we could save a few bucks per bottle at a place called the Liquor Barn and there are several stores throughout KY.
