Hoping you guys can save me some research. I'm starting to run again and I need a watch that will tell me time and distance. I guess I should also count steps. Any advice? Fit bit? Thanks.

Nike has a great runners watch. My daughter ran cross country in HS and the team all used it. You synced it with its GPS before you started and the watch would record your pace, mile splits etc. when you finished you could plug the watch into your computer and it would download your run. You could then analyze your run. The GPS function would chart your run on google earth and input the speed and changes in elevation so you could watch your run on the screen. It also kept track of all your runs over time.

Much more information than you get from a Fitbit.

Polar M400 if you want heart rate buy it without the chest strap and get a scosche hr arm band.

Google dcrainmaker. His reviews of all things running/excersize are very good.

Garmin fenix 3 is what I want but can't justify. The polar acts like an activity monitor with reminder ala Fitbit but also acts like a gps runners watch and hr monitor. Hard to beat.

You don't need to buy a watch, if you already have a smartphone. Just download the Nike running app. It uses gps to track distance, pace, time, etc. And it's a free download.

You just have to carry your phone with you as you run... which I already do because it has my music on it.

I just look at where the sun is when I start, and where it is when I'm done.

Some simple calculations done in my head, and voilà..................no need for any fancy gizmos.

At night I use the stars......

The phone can work. The watch is better.

Old school for me. A cheap Timex Ironman for $30. But then I have been running distance for about 40 years and I already know what I'm feeling without consulting a gizmo.

The FitBit seems to be the latest rage. Bought my wife the HR model for Mother's Day.

May be a good time to buy their stock too (FIT).

I have the fitbit HR. Meh. It isn't as accurate as the gps running app because it tracks your arm movement. Doesn't know your pace or stride, etc.

When you run out on the streets, the running app learns this and converts it for when you run on a treadmill. I actually really liked the Nike running app. I just don't run nearly as much as I used to because my feet don't like it... which is why they're in an ice bath right now.

Runtastic, map my workout, or Argus on your smartphone...although I'm going to take a look at Nike now, if it automatically adapts to switches between trails & treadmills.

I bought same model for my wife for Christmas. I'd have been better off if I'd have bought her a mop and a vacuum.

I am happy enough with the S Health on my Samsung phone....most of the time. However, after six hours of kayaking, when the damn things tells me "Be More Active", I'd like to toss it...its good with walking, treadmill, etc.....kayaking, not so much

Another free app is the Mapmyrun app. I've only used it when I've been trail hiking in the woods. It works pretty well in the middle of no where so I think it should be pretty good in town, etc...

You can add sports manually onto the S Health app. Has a whole variety to select as well, just put in the number of minutes.

MANUALLY having to something to make an App work correctly goes against everything my lazy azz stands for. I'm perfectly happy yelling at it to STFU whenever it says "Be More Active"
