perhaps a few here remember the Tigers' second baseman with the exaggerated open batting stance (I'll regret that phrase).

despite mediocre lifetime stats, he was a fierce competitor during the '60's, a real winning type of player.

Local connection, from CT, played at the end for the Red Sox, but I will always picture him as a Detroit Tiger.

RIP

Hey Frank...

I THINK your old enough to know about that wired cult game from the 60's to the 80's about baseball

Stats and teams, it was a big hit with rabid baseball

Fans, not sure if it came in a box or was a magazine...

"A???" just letters was the name of it...

It was way prior to electronic games...

I'll Google the basics and try to find the name of the game....kind of like a "Mr. Peabody Way Back Machine" ( or was that Mr. Wizard's machine??)

Version of FANTASY FOOTBALL...

LATER ....SHERMAN

I had a board game called All Star Baseball Game, but I think a friend had one called something like Stratomatic Baseball.

At least for one of them you'd pick a real major leaguer to bat, take his round card with every possible at bat result on it but "weighted" based on his statistical tendencies, and then place it on a dial and spin the arrow. Where the arrow pointed was the result of the at bat.

We also played those terrible electric football games, but they sucked.

The electric football games sucked.

My Dad had a football game where one player would put a sheet of paper with an offensive play on it and the other player did the same with a defensive play. There was a backlit box that you placed these papers on. Then you slowly pulled out this cardboard piece that would reveal what was on the play cards. When the defense intercepted with the offense, that was that play's result.

I found it:

did a quick look.

All Star Baseball Game had the round cards and the dials with spinners.

Strat_o_matic was more complcated, involved cards filled with stats for batting, pitching etc. and involved rolling dice and then matching up the numbers on each die to a stat on the cards of the chosen players.

Cards were updated yearly to reflect all players more current trends.

APBA baseball, also made a football version. We had a league in the 60s when I was in the Air Force stationed in Turkey. I bought the baseball version for my nephew, a rabid Giants fan, about 10 years ago.
