I'm not a fan of Connies, and I've tried my fair share.
To me, this one is different..........as in......good.
Perfect construction, perfect burn and draw.
Nice creamy smoke, hints of pepper, occasional sweet spice notes, with a quality tobacco undertone throughout the smoke. Ramps up in strength the final third. Fragile wrapper on one out of five.

Went through the fiver on a recent road trip/camping trip. Smoked them in the morning with coffee.
Would I pay $5/ea? - no
$4/ea? - umm........
$3/ea? - yes

I have not tried other vitolas, and probably won't. This is a perfect morning smoke at the campground for me.....burn time a bit over 1 hour.

Sounds like one worth trying. I always felt UC might have potential with a different wrapper. But the price point gives me pause. Even at cbid prices, there's a host of CC shade wrappers that fill the morning slot just fine...for less money

I am, or at least was, a big fan of my father Connecticuts... any comparison?

WOW, see I am not the only one that loves this cigar early in the a.m. Smoked it for the first time on vacation in California and smoked a few more in the mornings after the 1st. Definitely a darn good cigar and a great morning cigar w coffee mixed with Patron XO Coffee Liqueur.

Have not tried a MF Connie.

Loved the Connie in the Corona Gorda size.

Now even better IMHO is the My Father Federal LE BIJOU Connecticut Edition Petit Robusto.

the corona gorda on the mf connie is what I keep stocked at the local... the employee there - who never smoked before he met me - smokes those exclusively now...

I tried the shade with some apprehension a few months ago. I was surprised at how flavorful they were. Definitely enjoy them in the am, or as a change of pace. Worth trying if you have not had them yet.

Why don't people like connies? Me don't like most of them either but me can't exactly put my finger on why.

Now, to answer your question......seriously:
For me, most of the Connies I tried, especially as a noob, were of yard gar to low mid range quality (Cusano, Torano, MoW, Perdomo, RP, La Aurora, Oliva) and a few others that were handed to me here and there.....but I forgot what, because they were forgettable)
They tasted like newspaper a hobo slept on when bad, and like a real mild cig when "good"......nothing to make me want more.
Being that I wasn't really a fan of mild cigars to begin with, and, my experience with the less than stellar Connes in the list above, I gave up on Connies. Once you get used to stronger, bolder, "darker" tobacco wrappers/cigars, a mild Connie can seem boring, and the flavors so feint/refined, they can be difficult to pick up, if at all. But if you get a crappy one? You'll ditch it real quick.

There's a handful of other cigar sites I peruse, and the DE Shade was getting some good reviews from people I trust, and from people who like cigars I like.
So I grabbed a fiver. I'll be grabbing more......it will be the first Connie I've ever bothered to buy again.
