With two 250 count Humidors quickly filling, and more boxes coming (so I am not low at this moment), I was looking to make my first coolidor. However, I am having a difficult time finding those Oust fans. Are there any alternatives that can be used? I have seen a few, but there are no descriptions indicating that the scent is removable.

What do you folks use?

I have a case fan mounted in a cigar box with beads beneath wired to a USB wall wort. Runs at low speed 24/7

Xikar recently came out with a battery operated fan that will accomplish this as well. Not sure of price, though.

I have a 300 count I've never had a fan in and don't have any humidity problems. A container of beads on the bottom level is all it needs.

I have have been using $5 worth of gel I bought off ebay in my $15 Island breeze and haven't had any issues.

I put a fair amount of crystals in a little soup container I got from a chinese to-go lunch. Took a small screwdriver and punched a bunch of holes and haven't had any problems. Will be coming on a year in oct. Be sure to house all your cigars in boxes.

Been using two 2-1/4" computer fans salvaged from old computers - they're $5-6 new. Wired both to an old AC/DC adaptor, and plugged into a simple household timer. Cooler stands on end with drain plug on the bottom and opens like a cabinet. Fan on the bottom faces left, fan on top faces right - creates a great airflow. Used double-face tape to affix fans to back of cooler, and ran wires through the drain hole.

Total cost = $0.00 - all items where lying around the house.

None of my cigar pals has ever seen a need for a fan. They use large (70-120 quart range) clear plastic storage tubs with handles that lock the lid on top. With no fans, and humidifying devices spread kinda randomly around inside, all their cigars are pretty much equally humidified and feel and smoke the same, no matter what position they've occupied in a container.

Therefore, it seems that in decently-sealed containers (at least, like these described), humidity spreads out evenly all by itself.

So really though, thus might seem kn00bish but what is the purpose of the fans other than spreading out the humidity?

That's what they're for. If you've got a large humidor with a single humidity source, it helps to have some air circulation to ensure that humidified air is being evenly distributed. IMO, it's a bigger deal for storing individual cigars than for box storage.
