Dot sight such as EOtech, Vortex, or tactical scope?

If dot, do you set up for co-witness capability with iron sights?

Magnifier?

Eotech on one with cowitness front post.

4x on a flat top.

But, I never shoot the things, so don't have much else to share.

depends on your application

aimpoint makes top notch products in my opinion with the PRO being a nice price point and fantastic quality

many of the optics are 1x magnification so if you are doing long range shooting a magnifier (3x) is a decent idea

for varmit control and pushing the limits of the round then a scope is a good way to go just check on the eye relief

cowitness is nice as a backup to make sure you are tacticool enough although will rarely be needed

i have become a fan of the offset cowitness sights, especially when using a scope

For hunting, currently using Bushnell Trophy 4-12x 40mm DOA 600 Reticle mounted on both AR10 and 30-06..
Was considering upgrading to the Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x 50mm, but after successfully filling a mule deer tag this year with the Bushnell scope turned down to 7x, think I'd rather buy another gun than replace a field-proven scope.

So true. Aim point and eotech are very nice for anything 100yds and in (with my bad eyes) a real scope is needed for anything longer. I like my vortex 3-9x40 a lot. Price is good too

I also wouldn't limit myself to an AR. AK is just as much fun and has a lot more uses. Also, cheaper and cheaper to shoot.
