It's always happening, and I never have to do it manually.

Bovedas + gel jars. All I ever have to do is add distilled water to the gel jars as needed, and the vapor they emit recharges the Bovedas continually. At the same time, the Bovedas continually do 2-way correction to supplement what the gel jars are emitting.

It's a super-easy, cheap, beautiful arrangement.

Can make cigars taste funny.

under certain conditions, can grow mold rather quickly, compared to beads...
take up a lot of room.........compared to beads

Same here. No mold, no changed flavors, no problems of any kind. Combine with Boveda for a nice, low-effort system that holds rock-solid RH, with the Bovedas kept charged automatically.

It's not a "Bud Lite" vs. high-end beer analogy, either. More like "no problems" compared to "no problems". A tautology.


Bovedas on their own require either a pain-in-the-ass recharging process that takes a lot of time (not very user-friendly at all), or buying new Bovedas continually (expensive).

My system requires "add distilled water once in a blue moon", which is easy and instantly completed, and no continual purchases (except the 99-cent/gallon water).

Gel is also more susceptible to a brown/black mold growth.

Can't believe no one said it sooner… Save yourself the effort recharging packs and just buy HF beads. 🤦

Bovedas and beads.

Once a year I saturate the beads, and the bovedas plump up.

When I buy cigars, I tend to buy a lot at once, and since they usually come wetter than the 62-65 I like em at, they help to recharge as well. I have a couple ammo cans I used for overflow storage, and every time the boveda would fatten up in the couple months the new cigars would siting there.

Keeping a few crispy Bovedas on hand is also a great warning device in case you are getting too humid.

rock stable for ~4-6 months (except for one desktop)
recharge usually takes 1-2 weeks and i do it when they are hard
