Hey guys, new to the board. I have been enjoying cigars for about 8-10 years now and know a fair amount about cigars. The one thing I am struggling with is digging through all the new cigars that have come out in recent months/years. I was pouring through my CI catalog and realized how little I know about some of the cigars that are out. I am hoping you guys can give me some advice in regards to the below list. Some of them are cheap sticks and I am curious if they are worth trying or if they are junk. Some are ones I have never heard of and some are makers that I love but don't know their newer selection. I am generally a maduro guy, the darker and thicker ring gauge the better, however, I have enjoyed all sorts of sticks. Some of my favorites are the Padron 64th anniversary maduro, CAO Brazilia, RP Edge Maduro, CAO Vision, HdN Celebracion, Obsidian and the list could go on, so I won't bore you too much.

AVO, Padron, and the melanio are worth buyin. I'd skip the rest, the Davidoff are ok if the money is no big deal to you.

I probably did bore you guys, but oh well. Just curious about a lot of sticks and wanted to give you a little background. Sorry that my name is similar to others, just one I liked. In regards to sending SteveS a cigar, give me the details and I am on it. I generally know how these forums work.haha..I think its called a bus driver...

I know a few of those are more of yard gars, but curious if they are decent since they are so cheap. I know I like AVO, Padron and Oliva, but haven't tried those specific ones.

BTW, opinions on cigars are like ****, of course. Here's 11 years of cigar knowledge distilled to a couple drops:

1. Bargain cigars that YOU will like are hard to come by and the journey to find them is going to be painful. I have a short list of $1-3 cigars that I actually enjoy. Was it worth wading in the shallow end of CBID, CI and a dozen others for years; smoking **** and gaining experience...IDK...maybe...maybe not.

2. I've had some decent Gurkhas -- another very short list. If you learn nothing else in this first thread, learn this: Gurkha MSRP means absolutely NOTHING. Read that sentence again. You will think you're getting deals, but you're getting fucked. For all the Gurkhas I tried, thinking I was getting a great deal, there were maybe 3 that were worth what I paid....and those three aren't made anymore.

3. You won't do it, but if you skip the entire CBID learning curve and just start out buying Cubans and/or a few boutique brands (e.g., Illusione, Tatuaje, RoMaCraft, Caldwell, Liga Privada, Dunbarton, and a few others) you will pay more per cigar, but your cigar enjoyment per dollar spent will be vastly increased. Took some of us years to fully grasp this, but, as Wheel tried to tell me nearly a decade ago, it is true.

Overrated IMO. Also, avoid CAO overall, because they tend to introduce a cigar and make it really good for awhile, but then they dumb down the blend and use crappier tobaccos and hope you won't notice (for example, the Sopranos wrapper change, which they admitted to, but only years later).

I love some of the AVO, particularly the Nicaraguans.

EP Carillo is spoken highly of by one of the well-repected members of my local club, though I don't know enough to give a decent account.

I thought the Oliva V Melanio was a tad overrated, but perhaps it just isn't my cup of tea. A few of my friends adore the stick and were shocked that I don't worship it as well.

Kentucky Fire Cure is iffy. The flavor is very smoky and slightly monotone. I enjoy the KFC a great deal when I'm in the mood for it. Some folks adore this line, some think it should he quarantined from other cigars.

Not on the list, but I like to point people to El Gueguense. An excellent medium-body smoke made by Foundation Cigars, one of my top five cigars. Harder to get is the Tabernacle by Foundation, that thing is insanely good!

A name mentioned already: RoMa Craft. Buy them. Buy every line.

OR of the Bueso Genesis, especially the Toro, was a superb cigar. Subsequent releases......not so much.

The only other cigar on your list I'm currently buying is the Undercrown Shade.......I really like these as morning cigars with coffee, usually on the weekends or when camping (which is when I'll have a morning cigar)....the Corona being the best vitola imo. It's the only Connecticut I've ever liked.

I enjoy the Diesel Uncut and the Aj Fernandez New World but then again I like most of AJ's blends which Diesel is also one of his lines. The Ave Maria Reconquista is solid(another AJ blend I think) but too big of a cigar for me, I like cigars around robusto or smaller generally. The AVO, Padron, and Oliva are the only others I would probably think about purchasing but can't say I have tried any of those particular blends that you mentioned.

Don't listen to folks who laugh at these cigars or put them down as cheap crap. They're not. They're 100% USA tobacco from TN and KY, fire-cured, and delicious.

They're cheap, which makes them easy on the wallet to try!

Parodis were the first cigars I ever smoked as a kid...always figured the incorrectly pronounced "pah roh' dee" (or parody) was the Seal of Approval on the box...the actual pic of a seal.

Think we covered this a few years ago.

Oliva V melanio (especially the figurado) is one of my personal favorites.
I also recently tried the the undercrown shade and really enjoyed it.
