I'm reading through my CI catalogue and I always see Gurkhas being highly praised as "top-shelf, high quality" with an MSRP of over $400 for 20 cigars. What's everyone's opinion on these? I've had them before and they're ok but my beef is this...if they're such high quality, how come you can get $20 for $59.99??? Am I missing something here?

Ugh, Gurkha.

98% of their stuff I've tried has been total schitt. The 2% that was good is a crapshoot, because if you buy that exact same cigar again, there's a good chance it'll suck.

In short, mostly low-quality, and the higher-quality stuff is unpredictable and inconsistent.

The grandiose bullschitt about $400 boxes and "high-end, sought-after luxury lifestyle brand" is completely made-up nonsense to get idiots to buy them.

They're a longstanding joke in the cigar world.

I've never had a B&M Gurkha. I've smoked over 60 different ones and only remember one that was horrible. Most Gurkhas are mediocre cigars, but of those 60 + over a dozen were quite good if not superb. The best bet in trying a Gurkha is to pick one that isn't sold exclusively by an internet seller. MSRP is a joke, so disregard it. Stay away from the infused crap- Oliveros does cognac infused better. If you find a good one, stock up quick before they change to licensed reproductions.

Any suggestions on ones that are worth trying? I have had quite a few and was not impressed. The only one that I remember that was any good was the Triple Ligero. There was also one perfecto that I liked but no clue which it was as it was given to me by a friend.

Micro TPB-1 - box pressed lance w/corojo wrapper....v good....if you find some, lmk....smoked last one about two years ago

Titan - OR (any that I purchased after 2009 were mediocre)....deep, sweet flavors, burns well, lasts a couple hours

Ancient Warrior - Get one from 2008 or earlier (purple; not yellow) --- recently re-released versions are way beyond horrible....I can't think of another cigar that was so completely fd up between OR and re-release...great to unfnsmokeable

There was another skinny box press from days gone by...I can't recall the name....believe it was a cameroon wrapper...decent enough for the coin

I have not had one single Gurkha sold since 2011 that was worth one half what I paid for it...there may be some out there, but I refuse to believe that it might be worth the risk of going through some absolutely **** cigars that may well explode on you

The re-issue truly SUCKED !

As far as OR Gurkhas go . . . In addition to the Ancient Warrior mentioned above, I liked the Centurian XX, Royal Brigade, Nepalese Warrior, Class Regent, and probably a few others that I can't think of at the moment.

Have not had ONE "new" Gurkha that even came close to my liking.

How do I go about getting OR versions of these? Seems difficult..haha.

Pretty much every Gurkha I have had, had severe burn issues and all canoed really bad.

Like I asked before, how would one go about finding these OR's? Just from people that have old boxes or is there a way to still buy some of these somewhere?

Probably best with an ISO post. I don't think that Gurkha (like most NCs) dated their boxes, so shops might not really have an accurate idea of the age.

I really used to like gurkas a lot when i first started smoking cigars... someone here sold me a box of the original class regents and a tin sampler...

The regents were good, but only good in the sense that they would be considered a good $3 cigar... but it sold for $5...

The sampler had a beauty, beast, shaggy, crest, and titan... i posted some pic comparisons of those cigars with versions of the cigars i had bought here, and they were clearly different...

no one here really gave a sh*t about the pics, which i didn't understand then... but i understand now it was because most people here know gurkas are low quality cigars... and even at their best, gurks can't compare with other cigars of the same price, hence the gimmicky marketing...
