gotta go to Japan tho... 😟

Police in Japan are trying to reduce the amount of older citizens driving on the road by offering a seniors a big discount on one of the country most popular comfort foods-- ramen.

Last week, Aichi prefecture in central Japan, rolled out the program in which elderly drivers will be provided discounted meals of ramen noodles at 176 outlets of the Sugakiya restaurant chain, The Guardian reports.

The hot deal will only be valid to individuals who surrender drivers licenses.

The initiative comes after Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe recently pushed for action to address the rise in driving accidents (some fatal) caused by drivers 74-years of age and older. The overall number of traffic accidents involving drivers aged 75 and up has risen from 7.4 percent to 12.8 percent in the last decade according to the national police agency. At the same time, there's been a nationwide decline in vehicular accidents overall across the country.

Older drivers in Aichi are entitled to ramen discounts after presenting his or her driving record certificate, which can be obtained from police in exchange for handing in a license, local media reports say. With the 15 percent discount, a meal at Sugakiya with ramen, rice and salad costs just 500 yen-- about $4.40.

Japan isn't the only country that's considered using food as an incentive to make things safer. In June 2015, a jail in Indiana explored a program that would allow inmates with good behavior records to order pizza and takeout from local restaurants. And in August, a restaurant in Indianapolis contemplated trading free pizzas for guns handed in off the street.

In Japan, officials have also used non-edible incentives to improve street safety. Many drivers can take advantage of similar incentives, including discounts at public baths, barbers and chemists and reduced taxi fares.

Prior to the ramen concession being introduced, 12,000 drivers in the prefecture had taken advantage of the offers this year.

Film at 11... 😟

Hey, I'll drive over and buy your guns with pizza, what'cha got?

This is doomed to failure, my sister tried to get me to talk my Mother into not driving anymore. She was in her eighties. I asked her if she would rather die in a fiery car crash than quit driving she emphatically said, "Yes!" 8-[

Thankfully no one was injured when she totaled her car by running into back of another car. The other car whose driver just, "Stopped for no reason!" 🤐

Mom turns 83 next weekend. When I'm with her for 5 months in wyoming every summer, I drive everywhere. When she is home in texas she drives. In a college town.... I don't like it... But she lives 90 miles away, so there is nothing I can do. 🙏

We should do this in Dallas. Free noodles for all Asians, regardless of age.

There's always one doing 50 in a 70 on central.
My Mom says it's because they are used to a bicycle, they feel like their haulin azz...

I know, everything above is bad.......my apologies to any Asians that go the speed limit.

True. We used to live in Laguna Niguel, CA right next to Leisure World, or as we called it at the time Seizure World. The land driving danger, slow drivers and corner curbs turned black by the tires of misguided golf carts, Cadillacs and other large vehicles.

I have and will continue to always let other driver get by me if at all possible.

If it makes you feel any better all my Mother's friends thought she was a great driver. Of course one was blind, others could not see well and none of them were allowed to drive. She would always drive them to various functions and bridge games.[sarcasm]

We installed a tracker on my grandma's Matrix.

The app grades her, and we can see where she has gone.

My wife is Asian, but I taught her how to drive, so she speeds. Spatial recognition still sucks... that must be inherited, but she doesn't drive slow.

Snowbird season is upon us in the desert. Had an old couple stop dead in the road in a 45 mph zone to take a picture of a cactus this week. [ram27bat]
