I'VE BEEN HALF HEARTEDLY researching
Wood pellet stoves for over a year.
Price and quality are my main concerns.

I DESPISE FIRE PLACE STORES TO PURCHASE ANYTHING EXCEPT SERVICE CLEANINGS OF STOVES AND CHIMNEYS.
THEY ALL have a JEWELER and OPTICIAN
MINDSET THAT THEY HAVE A GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO UP CHARGE ANY ITEM 300-500%
and the customer should buy from them
"And like getting BUTT REAMED".

I have a HARMON $1,400 coal stove and absolutely HATE THE F#CKER...
My Dad had it DOWN to a science but I can't light or run that P.O.S. AT ALL.

I HAVE searched Home DEPOT and Lowe's
But their offerings BLOW ...

I HAVE just about settled on
Tractor Supply...

On a KING MODEL # ??? With a 120 lbs hopper $1,099... 20% off of that this week = $879
Or
A VOGGELZANGER MODEL # ??? with a 120 pound hopper $1,299 ... 20% Off of that this week = $1,040 Approximately

Does anybody own either of these two stoves?

I can't afford $2,500-$4,000 buck stove... $1,100 is pushing it on a tractor supply credit card with ZERO
Interest for 12 Months.

The KING HAS GREAT REVIEWS 75-80%
And 20-25% bad ones...
Too loud, auger breaks or jams, needs a fresh air supply from out side...

I can't get through to the VOGGELZANGER REVIEWS?? Not sure why.

Thanks for any input.

VG5790 is the Vogelzanger stove model.
Found some reviews...
80-90% BAD !!!
I won't get this one.

Many recommend a HARMON p61
And they say they are GREAT? @ $2,600....
Way above my budget.

The KING is a #5510...

Saw bad reviews on the #5000 or 5500??
House fills with smoke in 2 minutes because of malfunctions...

People say KINGS SUCK...
DON'T BUT THEM....

OH WELL,
BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND MORE RESEARCH...

Afternoon Mr. Jones,
Sorry you are having a difficult time with the Harmon. My experience is the exact opposite with the Harmon, I have two, one in my home and the second one in the barn / workshop. Both work extremely well. Having said that, one needs to keep up with the maintance on the stove. You say you have a lighting problem, underneath the burn pot is a plate with wing nuts, that needs to be cleaned out several times a year for lighting the stove. I am not anyway associated with Harmon, however I have had other pellet stoves, the Harmon is the best that I have found.

I hope this helps.

Have a service person show you how to work the coal stove. X

My brother in law had a pellet stove. One day something went haywire and the pellets jammed and started burning towards the hopper. It would have burned down the house if he hadn't happened to walk by and look at it smoking. Stay with the coal or by a used wood stove and Drafter's axe.

Thanks #'s 6 7 8 & 9....

I'm beginning to realize that the $1,400 HARMON
Coal stove that we have installed
Isn't the problem....

The problem is me not knowing how to run it.

I got so frustrated with our coal stove that
I gave away a ton of coal ...
5-6 fifty gallon metal drums with great locking lids...oh well

Guess, I'll go buy some more coal and try and learn
All the nuances of that damn HARMON.
What COAL TO PEOPLE BURN?
I had pea coal...

I TO LOVE THE BIG HOPPERS THAT FEED PELLET STOVES...but after watching YOUTUBE and
Tonygraz's statement...bad PELLET STOVES are very
Dangerous....

I'm going to look into propane too....
Something has to be safe and worry free
Short of a CARRIER OIL FURNACE FOR $6 LARGE...

just gotta research it ...WAY MORE.

Mr J,had a coal stove when I lived upstate €Honesdale,PA area }went the propane route, less hassle. Propane heaters are reasonably priced, check cost of propane versus coal. Good luck.
