My cousin does some awesome wood work and I suggested doing some cigar ash trays. He did a couple and they look amazing but we are looking for a good coating to put on them so the wood doesn't burn too easily. Any ideas?

Asbestos or lead would both work well. 🇨🇮

Seriously though, maybe he gets a basic glass ashtray (an unmarked glass dish kind of thing) and builds a sweet wood holder that it can sit in. He can either have finger rests in the glass tray, or no finger rests there, and build them into the wood instead.

Plain glass trays with a decent lip should be ridiculously cheap and easy to find. Then put all the magic in the wood it sits in.
