Generally, when I smoke a cigar, I'll leave the label on until the flame gets close to it. Unless I'm having a smoke where the label is at the tip. It also helps when a fellow smoker asks what you're smoking.
As far as storage goes, I store my cigars in the plastic wrapper they come in into my humidor.
Do any of you just take the label off before you light it? Do you take the plastic off the cigars before you place them in your humidor?

I remove the plastic and the label... way more breathability which helps control the pluming process... i won't even smoke a cigar until it's completely covered in fuzzy white plume... sometimes you have to Jack up the humidity to 80 or so to speed up the process but its worth it...

a lot of guys like to cut theirs right away too... that way you don't need to carry a cutter around... it's just smart is what it is...

I like to take a razor and make small slits in the cigar's wrapper to help let the air in for it to age better.

As long as you have fish in there... doesn't make a difference.

Never, ever, take off the band, or as you refer to it, the label. When a master blender creates a cigar blend, he determines just how far you are to smoke it, in order to properly experience what he has created. The factory applies the band, at the exact point you are suppose to stop smoking. Going beyond this point is disrespectful to the creator of the blend.

The cello, or what you refer to as plastic, must be left on the cigar at all times. It is bio-degradable, and will slowly dissolve over time. The blender determines just how long he wants the cigar to age, and instructs the factory to cover his creation, in a cello wrapper of just the right thickness required to accomplish this. Once the cello wrapper has fully dissolved, the cigar is ready to smoke. This is why you must maintain proper humidity, because if the humidity is too low, the cello will not dissolve in a timely manor, and you'll end up with an overaged cigar. When you see a cigar without cello, it means that is ready, and needs to be smoked right away. Smoking a cigar before the cello has dissolved, is an insult to the creator of the blend.

I find that lighting the cigar with the cello still on it produces a rather colorful flame ...

And once the plastic melds, it makes the cigar burn significantly slower.

I use the little plastic sleeve bag things the cigars come in to soak my cigars in different water amounts depending on whether I want a maduro, corojo, etc.

If you are afraid of forgetting what you are smoking because you took off the label- you need more help than we can give you.

Do you leave your plastic tips on? Only the finest cigars have those. Medium grade has precut holes. Only the cheapies do you have to cut.
