All that aside particularly for a millionaire a 2k bike isn't that big a deal I'm no millionaire and I've got a few I just don't think that expensive of a bakers a big deal but it's all relative that said you and Mr. Jones are having a symbiotic moment Who am I to get in the way

I wouldn't buy a road bike under a grand anyway I look at it and two grand is about the right spot to start

5k is a lot of money. 5k is not a lot to spend on a car.

It depends what you want it to do.

My commuter bike back in 2006 was 1.5k... and that didn't even have disc brakes.

My step sons race a 6 year old that has a 6,500 bike. And he's not fast at all......we have about $500 into their bikes (bmx)

No doubt a good bike won't make a sloth a good rider. But it will make similar folks appreciably better.

On my good road bike I could coast about as fast as some could grind.

Tech is tech. Upgrading to a 1k set of wheels bought me a couple mph. Best bike purchase ever.

I had a neighbor a few years ago who raced. He had bike frames that cost over 5k.

But tailgater's point is still valid. To most people, 2k for a bicycle is excessive.

I had about a 3K bike I never locked up. The trick was to purposely uglify the frame (had a buddy with a body shop "weather" it with ugly paint) and take the seat and a wheel inside with you. Never got touched.

For the vast majority of Americans, a bicycle is an affordable investment. For leisure or for transportation or for sport.

$2000 is WAY more than most should spend.

$2000 is also much too low for serious enthusiasts and for those who wish to be snobs. Not mutually exclusive, by the way.

If TW wants to spend over $2k, that's his business.
But think how much he would spend if it included a seat?

Actually I assume they were not their own bikes and were rented... I dunno. Never really went to the story. If that is the case, I would EXPECT that level of bike or better.

That said, it's been awhile since I looked but for most 2K would be a bit high for a roadbike but I would beware of anything under 1k 1.2 to 1.5 is about the sweet spot... or used to be.

Mountain bikes were always cheaper but I think that may have changed somewhat.

2K is certainly not excessive
