Interestingly enough the Houston Symphony did a tribute to Chanukkah this year as part of their Very Merry Pops production. I'll tell you one thing, they sure laid down the sleeze on the sax and clarinet. It was Awesome.

We kindle these lights because of the wondrous deliverance You performed for our ancestors. During these eight days of Hanukkah, these lights are sacred; we are not to use them but only to behold them, so that their glow may rouse us to give thanks for Your wondrous acts of deliverance.

yeah. I spell it the old way cuz it doesn't start with the letter equivalent to "H" in Hebrew, but rather a letter that sounds a bit like clearing the back of your throat, as in German Ach.

and thanks, bud.

Ya, we got that sound in our Dakota Sioux language too!

I remember my grandma used to try and teach me, I could never get it right.

But there is that distinct throat clearing sound...

Take for instance the question wene goko ka (no idea how to really spell it)

The k sound in both instances are throat clearers.

The question means... Are you drunk? ... we goko ka means are you crazy?

Edit:

At least that's what I remember, I may be wrong, tried to find a translator, but all the translators out there suck.

we just use ch when throat clearing is needed, there is no real "ch" (as we know it) in Hebrew. nBut the throat clearing letter is called chof

I'm actually interested in the story of recently recovered languages of Native Americans. Been some cool stuff happening here in MA.
