I think I understand what an NFL catch is....................ok.......obviously I don't.
Looked like a TD to me...........I don't give a chit if the ball moved.
He caught the ball, made a football move, no one touched him, went down to a knee, broke the plane of the goal line with the ball firmly in control. At that INSTANT, it's a touchdown. He completed the catch! What happened after that doesn't matter.

And all that crap about controlling the ball trumps lunging for a first down or a touchdown.....phooey.
This one is gonna get ugly because of the implications of the game.

Patriots cheating again...........ha!

and I'm not saying they did, the ball was not controlled through out the catch to the ground......they been calling em like that for a couple of years ----ask Dez Bryant 😰

Heh heh. Rman not so smaht........doesn't get da joke.

Seriously though, I disagree........Guess it hinges on "football move".
He caught the ball, and had FULL control of it, took a step and a half, went to knee, extended the ball, and broke the plane of the goal line........all well before the ball"moved" when he hit the turf. He clearly had total control of the ball until he hit the turf, AFTER the touchdown.........er..............incomplete pass.

I do understand how the rule reads.
So I guess it's the interpretation of "control" and "football move".
It's a really bad rule for sure.

Pretty sure they cheated in all their Super Bowl wins.
And, and, I heard, they have pictures, bad pictures, of like 50 to 60 NFL officials............and THAT'S how they get all those calls. They make sure its officials they have in their pocket, that work Pats games.

I don’t know why Pittsburgh didn’t kick afield goal to tie the game up. Instead they got greedy and tried to win the game. Interception, end of game.

two things...

They didn't learn from Pete Carroll, should have thrown out to the back corner, not inside.

Tomlin is on the committee that approved the catch/no catch "survive the ground" rule that was used on this one.

OK, a third thing...Belichick has been victimized by the new PAT distance that he campaigned for mightily for a couple of years.

Listening to the debates I guess each side has a grievance.

He had possession, knee down, broke the plane = TD. After he breaks the plane, nothing else matters, right?

Then you have that rule that possession has to survive falling to the ground, and it clearly did not. Which rule do you go with?

Upon further review... I have reversed my decision. That was a TD.

And it was the right call given the rules and has been consistently called as such. To the point that while watching the replay you could predict it would be overturned. I watched every play of last nights game and would love to see which call was different than this one. That fumble at the end by Car was awesome if you are a Chiefs or Cowboys fan.... or BOTH!

The call was correct.
The rule is a bad one.
As mentioned above, ask Dez Bryant.

A better way to look at this:
If the catch was at the 10 yard line, it would have been called incomplete. And no one would have complained.
James caught it, fell, and didn't have complete control of the ball when it hit the turf.
He never took a step. Never made a "football move".

But this was at the goal line.
The same "incomplete pass" becomes loosened from his grip only AFTER crossing the goal line.

With that said, it's fun to watch the fans of lesser teams.
Thank goodness this forum doesn't have sound. Because the high pitched whining would be unbearable.

What a great weekend of NFL football. Excellent product.
